James Chandler "J.C." Shepherd is making his first-ever Major League start.

Shepherd was originally drafted out of high school in the 41st round by the White Sox, but chose instead to play college ball for Kentucky ........ the Red Sox drafted him in the 13th round 3 years later, in 2014. I'm guessing that his signing bonus (as well as the way in which he was regarded and handled by his drafting team) was significantly higher from waiting those 3 years instead of immediately signing out of high school.

Trey is a professional.  Other teams know he is the guy, but still he focuses and beats them up.  I love seeing strong finishers particularly in bad seasons.
