Summer’s end draws close
Marked, not by a circled day
But the final sad out.

 

“Play Ball!” The cry calls
Summer, freedom, father son
with silence it ends.

 

My team was so bad
And yet I love it always
I’m an enabler.

Last year, for the first time in 118 seasons (1901 - Present), my favorite and 2nd favorite teams/franchises (the Orioles and the White Sox) each lost 100 or more games in the same season for the first time ever.

This year, the White Sox avoided 100 losses.

Actually, I just saw that Hays is in the starting lineup, I think he’s got five more at bats before he loses his eligibility, and I hope they will monitor that closely, otherwise my haiku will be ruined.

This year's O's were fun  
To watch. They hit and they scored.
But Oh! That bullpen.

And though they lost more 
Than one hundred again, there 
Were some rays of hope. 

Means, Hays, Santander,
The starters at Bowie. They 
All could be nuggets. 
 
At times I thought I 
Could see the tunnel ahead,
If not yet a light.

I know -- a hundred 
Lost again this year. Yet I'll
Miss this awful team.

The dark wintry months 
Will remind me bad baseball's 
Far better than none.

So it's wait, wait 'til
The year after next, or else
The year after that!
