O’s and Elias’s mistake was that Villar never should have made it past the trade deadline this past season. They didn’t like the potential return and gambled on trading him this offseason, it didn’t pay off.  I have no insider information so its possible the return was weaker than what we got but I highly doubt it.

I like Elias and what he’s doing but he will make mistakes, Villar would have probably been handled better by a more experienced GM.

With all of that said, all I care about is that Elias works to improve the organization, and I believe he will.

Here's a Marlins draft story with a lot of specific bonus details, except not on Easton Lucas.

I feel like around the 14th round of the draft, that's where you have to look at signing bonus information more than draft round to assess what the club thinks of the player.

One thing is for sure, there's going to be a lot of help within the margins this year for contending teams looking for quality everyday players to supplement their major league roster. 

Too bad the market wasn't looking like this between 2013 and 2016 when we had to settle for Travis Snider types.

I am floored that it was Miami that went for villar.

I like the direction the team is headed with Elias and company, but this Villar move seems to have been mishandled. I'm disappointed.

Awarding Waiver Claims

PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING OF WAIVER CLAIMS (TYPE OF WAIVERS):

If a player is claimed by only one club, that club is awarded the claim. If more than one club makes a claim, the club with the lowest winning percentage (regardless of league) either from the previous season (beginning on the day after the conclusion of the MLB regular season through the 30th day of the MLB regular season) or on the day the player clears waivers (beginning on the 31st day of the MLB regular season through the last day of the MLB regular season) is awarded the claim. If two clubs with the same winning percentage make a claim, the club in the player's own league is awarded the claim. If two clubs from the same league make a claim and they are tied in the standings, the club with the lowest winning percentage from the previous season is awarded the claim. If the clubs are still tied, standings from two years back (or three years back, four years back, etc) are used to break the tie.
