I wish the Commissioner would give some serious thought to how to make the draft more interesting. One great way would be for him to be absent.

  1. Allow trades with very little restrictions, with the NFL Draft being a guideline.
  2. While it'll never rival the NFL, they could do a better job of promoting the draft and the prospects, since most viewers are unfamiliar with them.
  3. See #1. :)

Like I said earlier, I haven't seen much in the way of positives with the pick trading currently allowed.

More teams have the chance to dump bad contracts for picks?  No thanks.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Manfred makes all the announcements himself. Who wants to see such bad teeth over and over?

Why not have let each team send their own representative to make the pick? A former player great, or a significant member of the community, or even the mayor or the local congressman or something like that? The possibilities are endless, and all of them are better than what we currently get.

Of all the things to criticize Manfred over, you go with his teeth?

Well I've got some good news for you, he's had work done, probably for you personally.

Just lay off the over the top tragedy porn that the NFL embraced this year.

FWIW I feel strongly the O's are going to select Austin Martin, if he's available.  Most agree, so I'm certainly not going out on a limb. With picks at 30 and 39 as well, it's going to be an exciting day this Wednesday.

It’s hard to pinpoint who might be available...but Cecconi and Swiney would be nice pick ups

It really is hard to know, for sure.

I'm not that high on Swiney, as his profile seems more suited to relief.  At 74 though, sure.  There will be at least a dozen guys I'd prefer over Cecconi at #30, but his selection wouldn't get me down.

I think Keith Law had David Calabrese at #16ish and I saw him on the one Weams posted in the 30’s. I know people are targeting pitchers around there but the guy has game changing speed and good potential to hit for a high average.

(Full disclosure: I picked him in OOTP and by age 21 he was starting and 23 a perennial all star. I just want to have predicted the future in my little video game world).

Blaze Jordon is all the way down at #58? How the mighty have fallen. This time last year people were talking about him as a possibility as our pick at #2.

That was mainly me. At the time there was a LOT of chatter about him going real high, but he really needed to show he could do better against top pitching, and naturally, like every other prospect, the corona virus happened.  This is why Frobby and I stress that early talk is just that--- early talk.  A LOT can and does happen in a year. Blaze Jordan still has massive upside as a power hitter, but he would need to hit better than he showed last go round, because his current profile is 1B/DH. As I've been saying, he has been a year younger the these other kids, and maybe he puts it together and becomes a great pick.  Jordan Walker is similar.  Walker is a much better athlete but like Blaze, he has great power potential and will-he-hit concerns. We'll see on both accounts.  I hope both make it.

    • Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?
    • Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)! To add some extra spice to the Rams franchise history they were involved with the Baltimore Colts in what was the largest trade of all time as described here. https://www.nfl.com/news/sidelines/digging-into-the-colts-and-rams-1972-franchise-swap-was-the-greatest-biggest-tra
    • I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.
    • I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.
    • I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.
    • I get that everybody wants the best of both worlds. But 2 questions: 1) What would be the plan for the pitching next year if we just went the rental/shortest term route? 2) Is Quantrill a guy that you trust making postseason starts? If so, what gives you confidence in him?
