Besides being a fan of Thorne it will be good to have a familiar voice on the play-by-play. The new(er) Orioles announcers sound professional, but I'm not used to any of them yet. Watching or listening to the games this year, I almost feel like it's the opponent's broadcast team.

I hope Thorne is around a couple more season before he retires.

I've never been a fan of his.  Since his hockey days he has been a "fake" homer to me.  I was ok with Jon Miller til his head wouldn't fit through a regular door frame.  I guess I have always been a Chuck Thompson fan.  Hell, the team of broadcasters i miss the most is Mel Proctor/John Lowenstein.

Me neither ....he has a good voice but makes many mistakes during the game. 
 

I liked Mel and Brother Low also.

I like Ben. Way different than Palmer but he usually gets me to chuckle once or twice a game. 

Can't wait to hear "GOOD BYE HOME RUN" again. I mean, if you can't get excited for a home run as a play by play guy I don't know what to say. That should be Announcer 101 and the first thing they ask for in the audition.

2019 Oriole games saw 518 homers.  Is anyone really going to get that excited about, say, number 445?

In 1972 the Orioles scored 519 runs.  I'm going out on a limb and I'll say Chuck Thompson didn't lose his stuff after every single one.

Out of 6,189 PA's, yeah, the homers are exciting. Put some emphasis on it, at least.

Not a fan of Thorne, either. Tired of him cheering for a Yankee or Red Sox homer. I want to hear some angst from the home team guy when opponent hits one. Ernie Harwell, John Miller, Joe Angel, Proctor and Bro Low are the ones for me. Palmer is getting tiresome. After 30 years, I've heard most of his stories once or twice. Sounds like Thorne is getting an Angelos special. "He wasn't fired, we just didn't complete negotiations on his contract and he left us for another position."

I think Thorne is pretty good. There's a fine line to be walked between being a fan of the team and being a blind homer.  I can't stand the Bordick/Dempsey schtick, talking about how a 55-win team is full of talent and just about to turn the corner.  And if they ever have a Hawk Harrelson calling the opponent The Enemy, complaining about every call that goes against the good guys, and referring to all the O's by their first name like they hang out at the bar every night I'm going to turn the sound off.

I don't recall Miller, Angel, Proctor, or Brother Low being overt homers, and one of the reasons I like Palmer is his ability leverage his history and popularity to be able to speak the truth.

I don't think Harwell, Miller, Angel, Proctor or BroLow were blatant homers, either. Just a little angst, please, when some other team hits one. Palmer is the only one left who can criticize, and it looks like he is being shuffled off to Buffalo.

      This is my favorite Basallo clip so far. The swing is so fluid, it looks so effortless and the ball is just absolutely destroyed. It reminds me of homers by prime Chris Davis.

      The Orioles were bound to hit a rut. Get your hand off the panic button.    The Orioles aren’t signing Bauer. So just Fudget about him. The don’t need to trade Holliday and Kjerstad. I’m okay if he finds a guy worth paying a top guy return along with a few others ala Kirby, Gilbert, Castillo etc.   Stop patting yourself on the back. We lost as did everyone else to a hot Rangers team. We are still 7 up in the top wildcard slot. And as Texas proved is all you have to do is get in to have a shot.

      The Os pen isn’t good. With DC out, they just don’t have any arms you want to rely on. They don’t miss a lot of bats, don’t get a lot of Ks and the walk rate is higher than you want it to be. Kimbrel is fine but nothing special. He has been exactly what I thought he would be and maybe even a little better than that but hes not what we had last year, which was special. Cano is better than a dime a dozen guy but not by a ton.    Baker looks good and maybe he’s poised to have the year some of us thought he would have in 2023 but he has a ways to go to prove that.

      This group hasn’t burned you though. This is the biggest test for Elias since the team got good. The bottom line is the Os need pitching help and they have too much talent in the minors and too many subpar guys in the majors eating up at bats. You built this farm system up and are so proud of it and now it’s time to use it to its full potential.    I understand the Holliday injury likely sets him back until after the AS break, at least but assuming he’s hitting (which he has been or he’s been walking a ton) and once he is able to start throwing pain free, he needs to be up here.  Mayo needs to be up here yesterday.  It’s just time.  Sitting on ML ready top 10 prospects when below average MLers are playing in front of them just doesn’t make sense. You have a glaring weakness of too many lefties and a manager/GM that just won’t play lefties vs lefties. You have McCann playing way too much. Mayo needs to be up here right now. And then you need to use the rest of the system(and maybe ML team), not Basallo, and go get the pitching you need.
