On this day in 1970: September 17

Chuck is a day or two behind on these, but before the day passed, I wanted to note that on this day in 1970, the Orioles clinched the AL East title.    They backed into it, losing 2-0 but clinching anyway when the Yankees lost to the Red Sox 5-4.    That left the O’s up by a whopping 13.5 games up (14 in the loss column) with 13 games left to play.

Brooks Robinson celebrated the 15th anniversary of his MLB debut at the ripe old age of 18.122, a full year and few months younger than Juan Soto.   Coby Mayo was 18.122 a couple of months before the draft this year.
