The usual suspects are ranked, near where they are typically ranked. With the exception of Adley, MLB Pipeline has our guys ranked lower than Baseball America does. I put the Baseball America ranks in parentheses. I also included Keith Law's rankings in brackets, which was also released today.

2. Rutschman (2) [6]

27. Rodriguez (22) [55]

69. Kjerstad (62) [85]

70. Hall (59) [49]

77. Mountcastle (63) [NR]

Biggest outlier that jumped out to me from this list is putting Torkelson at #3. That is the highest I have seen him on any of these lists and seems awfully high for someone who is all-bat.

Wait, you're telling me Mountcastle is unranked by Law? Say it aint so! ;) lol

That guy is one of those guys that will stick with his initial calls and never back off them regardless of the information at hand now. I guess he's decided Rodriguez is not a reliever now to have him at 55. lol

He has always questioned his mechanics. He doesn’t like his windup.

Law also uses the term "overpay" when talking about signing Kjerstad below slol to get Mayo and Baulmer.  Wonder if that was just poor wording or if he really doesn't like that strategy?   Or is it Law really does just hate this organization....

In what context? That we reached at 2 (thus an "overpay" of draft capital)? Or that we "overpayed" for Mayo and Baumler?

Hope this is ok to post, but this is the quote within his assessment of Kjerstad:

"...cutting an under-slot deal with him so they could overpay two high school players in the fourth and fifth rounds."

Ugh, that's the kind of snark that shows he has an axe to grind with Baltimore, IMHO. He could have easily said "go overslot" or something like that.

Not sure if anyone is interested in listening, but just throwing it out there.

You can listen to this here:  https://glennclarkradio.com/archives/   Find today’s podcast and fast forward to 41:28.    Here’s some highlights:

- Asked about the possibility Rutschman turns out to be only as good as the equally-hyped Matt Wieters, Callis says Rutschman had a better hit tool, better strike zone control and is a better defender than Wieters at the same stage of his career.

- Says a scout on another team, that wasn’t in the running for Rutschman, said (back when there was a potential issue with Rutschman’s shoulder), that even if he couldn’t catch and had to move, he’d be Mark Teixeira and the scout would still pick him no. 1.

- Really likes Henderson and says he might have made the top 100 if a MiL system had been played.   Thinks he may stick at short, but a very good prospect even at 3B.

- Very high on Mountcastle’s bat, and thinks he will continue to improve offensively now that he’s not wasting time trying to play left side of the IF.

- Likes Kjerstad, had him in a bunched group at 6-10 even though they ranked him 10th last year.    Says his power is very legit and now he needs to get on the field and show what he can do.

- Ticked off the names of 8 guys the O’s might be considering for the 5th pick including 3 college pitchers, two HS shortstops, and a college SS, C and OF.

No axe to grind with Baltimore.   He’s that way with every team.

Fascinating stuff. If the bat is that good, I wonder if the Orioles would consider carrying 3 catchers to allow him to DH semi-regularly even if it leads to fewer days behind the plate. Or what it would take for him to be playable at first to avoid carrying a third catcher.

For instance, a goal of 110 games started at catcher, 36 at 1B/DH and an off-day every other week rather than 130 games at catcher and an off-day every week.

Catchers don’t get pushed like they used to, for the most part.   Realmuto started 130 games at C in 2019, nobody else was above 114.

2019 was something of an aberration. In 2016, 7 players topped 119.

Posey 122, Lucroy 121, Wilson Ramos 122, Russell Martin 119, Yadier Molina 142, Realmuto 124, Salvador Perez 128.

Wieters averaged 129 starts at catcher from 2010-13.

I would think that the goal would be for Adley to start at least 120, if not 130.

    • I was hoping that would be this season, but he faded this second half. But even Gunnar not living up to his lofty expectation is still a good player with an .811 OPS.
    • Mike Elias simply can't offer Michael Baumann, Cristian Pache, Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers this kind of experience. Jack Flaherty was kind of Meh again, but hey, at least he isn't on Detroit for this weekend. It is a special player to get to watch.    He's reviving some of the Babe Ruth "he hits too brilliantly to let him pitch" stuff, but hombre is going to do whatever he wants to do, it is part of the deal.    It does seem pretty likely the SB to this scale are a 1-time deal with the legs getting the year off from the mound. I do have a baseball-y wish to see if he could be Ken Griffey, Jr. in center field if he tried.

    • Hopefully it will be like giving a blood transfusion to a sickly patient. Yes some players haven't played as well this season, but it's mainly the injuries that have taken it's toll. The lineup gets much better if Westburg, Urias and Mountcastle are back. No longer does Eloy have to play and Holliday can be platooned. Plus O'Hearn will absolutely not see at bats against LHP like he has been recently at times. Webb and Coulombe provide depth to make the bullpen postseason viable. And Coulombe can close games instead of Dominguez assuming he's back all the way.
    • Gunnar stands to improve on: fielding and stolen bases. I also think he’ll have a 1.000OPS season or two before he’s done.
    • Maybe they were going by Tony's reaction, not realizing that with the winning run on third there wasn't any point in running.
    • looks like some of y'all are gonna be pissed when we win 2 of 3 against Detroit, at least one in NY and 2 o 3 against Minn.  I'd be embarassed if I were some of you....projecting the apathy and misery in your own little lives onto our O's.  This is a F upped sport and a team with talent like this can turn on a dime and start winning consistently at any time.  This isn't over.  I you're mad that your life hasn't worked out well......please don't bring the rest of us down.
