How good is Mike Trout?

Trout is good enough to have have retired prior to the start of this season, and subsequently tested the "You to had to have played at least 10 years in the Major Leagues" rule in order to be eligible for the Hall-of-Fame.

With 2.0 WAR more this April, as of today he is a few months shy of his 30th birthday, and already this year has leapfrogged Johnny Bench and Paul Molitor on B-Ref's career list.

If he has his normal 8-win season, DiMaggio, Rose and Nolan Ryan (27 years) are coming up on this year's list.   He might be having a career year though.

I wish we got to see him play more.   The greatest player of his generation and I’ve only seen him play a handful of times.

And yet it's amazing how anonymous he is.  Lots of casual baseball fans wouldn't recognize him if he walked in a room.

I bet there are 20 NBA players and 15 NFL players and a bunch of other MLB players who would be recognized more often by average fans (i.e. excluding the hard core fans of their sport).

He doesn't do many commercials, he doesn't get seen in the postseason stage very much, I don't think he has a huge social media presence.

Nah...too early.  I admittingly also have no idea how he is off the field (for what we know), how he interacts with fans, etc...That is part of this.

So Zion has been in the league for two seasons and has played basically one season worth of games and Acuna is in his fourth season and has played two seasons worth of games but it is too early for Acuna?

That is odd even for Sportguy logic.  I'd group Zion with Tatis.

I guess you don’t know how to comprehend words?

I said Zion is approaching this status BUT need to see his knees and body hold up more..that’s obviously another way of saying, it’s too early to tell.

And yet you specifically call out Zion, over every other player in every other sport.

You are pretty obviously insinuating he's an exception of some sort in your mind.

I haven't seen him play, since watching basketball doesn't interest me, but his totals don't seem overwhelming.  Hasn't the game moved away from his style of play?

He doesn't seem to be in the top 10 for odds to win the MVP.

Just seems like an extremely random take unless you are going by sport center hype.

I called out Zion because he is on the path to being one of the top 5 players in the league(hes 4th in the league in PER), he is highly marketable, intelligent, raised well, doesn’t figure to get into off the court issues, conducts himself well on the court and interacts well with fans.

When it comes to a “blank check” player, all of those things are part of it.

The problem with him is his body type and size and will he hold up physically.  If he does, he checks all the boxes.  Have to wait and see on the health aspect of things.

Hes also extremely young, so giving him a blank check covers his prime years.  That helps.
