If truck songs qualify, listen to just about any track on Hot Licks, Cold Steel and Truckers Favorites, by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. (A lot of the same songs pop up on the Commander's later LPs as well.) In those days the Commander had pretty much an all-star band, including vocalist Billy C. Farlow, with backup vocals from John Tichy and the great Bill Kirchen.

The bar band that the Commander fronts now is (or was recently, I have no idea what's up with them), but the Commander was never much of a singer, though he's just fine on these sort-of-spoken stuff like Hot Rod Lincoln, which is a cover of a 1950's hit. What was odd about Hot Rod Lincoln is that most 50s songs about fast cars ended in tragedy, a tradition continued by Jan and Dean on Dead Man's Curve, a 1964 hit written by Brian Wilson and and Jan Berry. Two years later, Berry was severely injured and partially paralyzed in a car crash.
