Roster moves in July/August have been complicated

I have to go all the way back to July 3rd to determine the current roster.   I know that for Lakins to be put on the 60 day IL the roster had to be at 40.    So here are the moves I see:

7/3  Lakins move to 60 day IL and Wade DFA'd 

7/3 Gutierrez and Anderson added. Roster at 40

7/21  Akin and Santander put on the Covid IL.  Roster at 38

7/24  Greene added. Roster  at 39.

7/30  Santander activated for Covid -IL  Roster at 40

7/30  Galvis traded.  Roster at 39

8/1   Eshelman DFA'd  Roster at 38

8/1   Akin activate for Covid- IL. Roster at 39

8/2  Martin activated from 60 day IL .  Roster at 40

8/5   Diplan and Dusten Knight added.   Hartman is on the Covid intake and still not add to roster.  Roster needs at 43.

I can see Anderson and Leyba DFA but that is a guess.   Hartman could be DFA'd also to try to get him to Norfolk. 

I can see promoting Dusten Knight but why they promoted Diplan is a mystery to me.  He has a 1.63 WHIP an  a 4.12 ERA at AAA.

Possibly 3 if Hartman is off the COVID intake list today too. Or they DFA someone tomorrow to make room for him.

I think you missed Tanner Scott to IL on 8/1. Then Martin took his spot.

Right, and one of those has to be a 26 man move as well.   Anderson is the obvious candidate.

That removed Scott for the 26 man roster but not the  40 man roster.

But none of this addresses bringing Tyler Wells back on the 26 man roster.

Agree, but that hasn't been announced for today yet.  And may not be.   Same for Hartman and the 40.

Just trying to take it one step at a time.  We have a game in 4 hours and we need 26 guys in Yankee Stadium that are all on the 40 man.   I have a feeling Wells will not be added to the roster today.   We are bringing up two fresh arms and didn't use our best relievers last night.

The July 30th report that Hartman was sent to the minors makes no sense to me if he is still in Covid intake.  For that report to be true he would have to currently be on the O's 40 man roster which he does not appear to be.

It's weird MLB.com also lists Hartman being optioned to Norfolk on 7/30.

I guess they made the decision for him to start at Norfolk, even though he didn't have to be added to the 40 until he completed Covid intake protocols?

Looks like the Orioles initially decided to option Hartman to Norfolk, but since he's going through the Covid intake process, Hartman doesn't have to be added to the 40-man roster until he's cleared.

They could try to pass Hartman through waivers and assign him to Norfolk, as well.
