Game Notes

  • Orioles have lost 12 in a row.  They have been outscored by 77 runs in that stretch, the worst run differential over a 12 game stretch for any MLB team since 1901.
  • Orioles are hitting .148 (16 for 108) with runners in scoring position in August
  • The top 4 batters in the Rays' order did not play last night.
  • The Rays just called up former Oriole reliever Shawn Armstrong, and sent down Mike Brousseau who homered last night.  Former Orioles who have played for Tampa this year include Nelson Cruz (batting 2nd tonight), Rich Hill (traded to Mets), Chaz Roe (on the IL, and Evan Phillips (DFA'd a few days ago and claimed by the Dodgers).  Armstrong could join that list.

I am wondering if the fact that Armstrong played for us for a meaningful amount of time will be a benefit to him in the event he gets into tonight’s game?

You would think it would help us.   Our guys should have an idea of what he throws, at least compared to some newbie they have never seen before.

Overheard on the pregame show while moving my car from overflow parking to just outside my building (the last bus to overflow parking runs at 6 so when I'm working late I have to go get my car, or else walk about 0.9 miles when I get off work on my bad knees):

Today is Game 162 of Austin Hays career.   In his first 161 games, he has a .254/.304/.423/.726 line.   He has 22 HRs, 27 doubles, 2 triples, and 73 RBIs.

By the way, Austin has played every inning of every game so far in August.

That seems about right.

That’s a solid line for a single season. And it doesn’t mention his fine defense. If he can stay healthy, he is a solid piece on any team in baseball.
