ESPN+ has Kiley McDaniels’ top prospect lists up for all 30 teams.   He ranks the O’s org no. 1 in “overall value” but only no. 10 in “quality depth” (total number of players he rates as better than 40 FV).    Here are the players he rated at 40+ and up:

1. Adley Rutschman, C, 65 FV (1st on the Top 100)
2. Grayson Rodriguez, RHP, 60 FV (8)
3. Colton Cowser, CF, 50 FV (74)
4. D.L. Hall, LHP, 50 FV (94)
5. Gunnar Henderson, SS, 50 FV (96)
6. Coby Mayo, 3B, 50 FV (98)
7. Jordan Westburg, SS, 50 FV (108)
8. Kyle Stowers, RF, 45+ FV
9. Kyle Bradish, RHP, 45+ FV
10. Connor Norby, 2B, 45 FV
11. Drew Rom, LHP, 45 FV
12. Heston Kjerstad, RF, 45 FV
13. Joseph Ortiz, SS, 45 FV
14. Terrin Vavra, 2B, 45 FV
15. Hudson Haskin, CF, 40+ FV
16. Reed Trimble, CF, 40+ FV

He’s picking Trimble as a guy who could break out past his current 40+ rating this year, and Pinto as a guy who could break out beyond 40 FV.

He also listed 13 players at 40 FV and 26 at 35+.

That group of players (in any order) looks better to me every time I see it.

And I have no problem listing Trimble based on upside. His range of outcomes is huge at this point, but he's kind of an unknown to many even with decent upside.

Nothing at all international on that list. Hopefully those guys make people take notice this year.

    • The age is certainly part of it.  But the larger part is he only hits home runs, and don't bring anything else tangible to the team.  Doesn't get on base well, doesn't have speed on the basepaths and plays a below average outfield.  Power wise he's very good and solid, at least this year which is an outlier compared to his others, but there is nothing else he does well.  He does have the advantage of being a switch hitter which is a big bonus, especially with Hyde and his obsession with lefty/righty matchups, but that only goes so far.  If he brought more to the table, then the age wouldn't matter as much, as if the power drops off he could be helpful in other ways.  But he doesn't, and that's the main reason I wouldn't sign him to a deal.  Age is A factor, but for me the type of player he is contributes more.   I agree that the market will give him too many years.  I don't care about the money so much, but I think anything beyond a couple 2-3 years is a bad idea.  I want to see us spend, but I want to see us spend wisely.  No more Davis/Trumbo type deals.  Spend the money on players that deserve it, not one dimensional players who are very likely to age poorly.  Santander was a great success story and it was one of the best rule V picks ever.  But it's time to let some other team pay for his decline, as I really don't see a Cruz type future for him.
    • Agreed. So to put it very simply, if we win 2/3 and the Twins lose 2/3 this weekend we are IN.
    • There’s going to be a lot of healthy discussion about how to spend our money. MLBTraderumors has already started. Here’s the O’Hearn paragraph from their article about picking up options( on Jimenez’ option, they said”haha no”)
    • The tiebreakers are weird because we could get 2 wins vs Tigers/Twins and clinch the playoff spot but could also get 3 wins and not make the playoffs.
    • Nope.  Too many years.  I agree with giving him the QO and letting him walk.  I might entertain a 2-3 year deal, but that's the most I'd go.
    • Yes I should have said by inter division we hold tie breaker on both if head to head.  3 way tie we would finish ahead of Tigers but behind Twins but still get in.   So the magic number is really 5 but with asterisk on that because it could be 4 with the right 2 wins vs Tigers or Twins.
    • Whatever seems to be possibly ailing Adley, IMO looks like it only affects him when hitting.  He sprang up outta his crouch like a Jack-in-the-Box and hustled for that foul pop/bunt yesterday and did not look like he was suffering any ill effects. But what do I know?  🤔🤣
