The Mark Teixeira Watch part III

I have no sound, does this say anything new?

Nothing new just the video clip of Ravech that's been referenced. FWIW this is being reported as breaking news and the angle on this is the emergence of the O's. Ravech offers "in speaking with someone very familiar with the negotiations..." He the first one in the national media to lead with the O's as serious players in this negotiation characterising the hometown point as not an East Coast or Baltimore/Washington link but a BALTIMORE link with the "I'd love to play for the team I grew up watching" reference.

Thats stupid investing, plain and simple. The Yankees would save about $7.5M over the life of the contract by reversing the payments of 2009-2017 and backloading the deal.

I'm not very finance savvy. Can you explain how the MFY's would save the $7.5M by backloading the deal?

Website below outlines some of the salary lost in the past year. Tejada gone, Ramon gone, Bradford gone, Payton gone, Millar gone. Lots of dead salary leaving the books.

Question for everyone. *IF* the O's land Teixeira, do they push for someone they might not otherwise be interested in, a la Ben Sheets, Jon Garland, etc?

I think the O's will go after the two Japanese pitchers, but I doubt any others will be signed this year. Maybe Bedard next year.

Just as long as he doesn't read this board, too.

I wonder how he feels about saying that now. A week or so ago, he said the Orioles owner wasn't serious at all.

The funny part is, the quote about loving to play for the O's quote is a couple of years old. Unless he reiterated it again recently.

I have not been able to check the boards the past couple days. Could someone fill me in on the latest developments? What have the insiders been saying? Was Tex at the Ravens game? Have we made the "WOW offer" yet? And what are other teams offering? Thanks.

We signed Albert Belle. 5 years/$65 Million :)

Tex was there, but supposedly not with Angelos. Supposedly he was with Angelos earlier in the day, and thus had a police escort at the game. Belkast is very optimistic, and the other guys have been for the most part quiet the last couple of days.

I don't think he ever said that before. I remember him saying that there would be some "fun conversations" with the Orioles when he hit free agency, and offered to help out with the signing of Matt Wieters when he was drafted.

In general, money gets less valuable over time. $20M in 2009 is worth a lot more than $20M in 2017. If you could have $10M today or $10M in 3 years, obvioulsy you'd take it today, because you can invest that money and have even more in 3 years than you would by waiting. Its basically the same principal.

Quotes I've seen:

When asked about the possibility of playing for the Orioles: "That would really be a dream come true."

Another Teixeira quote: "In a year and a half, we'll have some fun conversations. Baltimore, obviously in the future, is a place I'd love to look at."

From a Jon Heyman SI.com article: "The Orioles are close to my heart,'' Teixeira admitted.

I guess I knew that. I was just more curious about how you got to the $7.5M figure. I assume that the increase in the value of the money over the life of the contract would benefit them to $7.5M to have it backloaded. I think I understand but can't put it into a good explanation.:D
