Have We Played Ourselves Into Rooting For The Yankees Whenever They Play A Wildcard Team?

Still too early.  Try me again in 2075.

Is this your path toward eternal life?  Summon some poor soul to root for the Yankees so you start turning in your grave?  That feels like a technicality.

Not for me. We are a fun team to watch, but remain confident that the Orioles are going to end the season more than a handful of games out of a playoff spot. I'm still convinced Mancini and probably Lyles and Lopez will be gone by the end of the trade deadline.

Given I still hold little hope/expectations for a postseason berth in 2022, I'm not rooting for the Yankees. If, come mid-September, we are within a couple games, then that becomes a different story. Until then, I'm enjoying the ride this year and just hoping their performance is enough to convince Elias (and ownership) to spend in the offseason to bring in a starting pitcher or two (and maybe another infield bat) to put this team in a position to truly compete in 2023.

I think we have, or is it still too early to root for the Yankees.

The way I see it, the Yankees are so far ahead of everyone that yes, go ahead and root for them to beat a particular team if it benefits your team. They're a juggernaut so who cares at this point.

This raises the general question of when do you start scoreboard-watching because the fate of other teams affects your team’s chances.   My answer: not yet, and not for a long time.   There’s just too much of the season to play to anticipate who our real competitors will be if we’re actually in the race in September.   And, until we’re on pace to win at least 85 games, we haven’t done what we need to do to put ourselves in a position where it matters IMO (though presently the two teams tied for the sixth spot are only on pace for 84 wins). In short, for now I just want the Orioles to take care of business.   I’ll worry about other teams later.

To me, rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the IRS. Never - no way - no time. It is a matter of life long principle.

I would never, ever root for the Yankees. I will certainly be rooting for the Red Sox, BJ's, and Rays to lose.

So it’s the last day of the season and we are a game behind the Texas Rangers for the final WC spot, and the Rangers are playing the Yankees that day.  We hold the tiebreaker with the Rangers because we won the season season series.   We win our final game but the Yankees-Rangers game isn’t over.   You aren’t rooting for the Yankees to win that game?
