I remain skeptical of the Orioles handing out huge pre-arb extensions because historically it hasn't been done here. Elias/ownership could surprise us, though, and that would be fun.

Looks like a smart deal for Seattle, only 210m in guaranteed money, with numerous opt outs.

So give him 10 years. If the Mariners can guarantee $210 million w/ the possibility of $450 million with incentives then the Orioles should be able to go $180 /$350. Does Rutschman turn down that much guaranteed money? Does he wave off the possibility of making $350 million in the next decade? 
 

I think any kind of reasonable long term extension is in the Orioles’ interest because Adley’s primary offensive talent — the ability to control the strike zone — should remain consistent throughout his career. The bat and feet will eventually slow down, but the walks, high OBP, and long ABs will always be there.

What's the point of manipulating service time if you intend to sign a player to a super long term deal well ahead of his FA year?

To improve your bargaining position with the player and as a hedge against him not agreeing to terms.
