Sure, but we don’t know what they plan.  This whole discussion is based on this:

“When I talked (to the Orioles) the night of the trade, talked about both Adley and I getting time behind the plate, first base, DH,” McCann said.

That’s not much to go on.

I look at it like this: McCann is a .777 OPS lifetime hitter vs. lefties.   Last year, though, he was pathetic against them, .324 OPS.   He’ll probably get some early opportunities against LHP and Hyde will see how he’s looking.  If he’s looking good, he’ll continue getting opportunities vs. LHP.   Sometimes that might put him at 1B or DH.   We’re not talking about a lot of games here.   10?   But I don’t think it will be fixed in stone one way or the other.   It depends on how McCann is doing and how other players are doing.

Well it’s also based on 2 different reporters reporting it before that press conference.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.  Hopefully it means nothing as you are saying but it wouldn’t shock me, especially since he has had some good lefty splits in the past.

Pretty obvious this was a salary dump by the Mets. Now let's hope McCann can bounce back.

The Mets signed Omar Narvaez to be the starter and their top prospect Francisco Alvarez got his feet wet in the majors last year, so no need for MCCann.

Yep, and no need to carry a 3rd catcher for that money. I mean, not every organization has the luxury of carrying a AAA 1B for $1.3 million! lol

Fangraphs’ Ben Clemens identified McCann as having the third-highest 95th percentile exit velocity gain of anyone in MLB last year.  https://blogs.fangraphs.com/should-you-believe-exit-velocity-breakouts/

I’m very interested to see how McCann does this year.  His expected numbers drastically exceeded his actuals last year, plus he was hurt a lot.  He has a lot of upside for 2023 IMO.

I agree.  The catcher position has been a black hole for so long it seems, having Adley is such a great relief.  And now we even have a backup in McCann who is likely better than any starting catcher that we've had for the past handful of years.  Really love how much we've upgrading this position over all.  Seeing how McCann plays this year is something I'm really looking forward to seeing, especially in comparison to the Chirinos/Severinos that were before him.

It’s a shame that Chirinos didn’t perform better, because he seemed like a great guy who everyone liked, and his demeanor with the pitchers was excellent.  But he was done, both offensively and defensively.
