Last night's lineup was depressing.

Yep..and while it’s “just spring training”, the depressing part is that lineup could actually occur this year and several times. Most of those guys have no business being on this team with the amount of BETTER talent/players we have.

I have thought about that a lot in the last week. It's one of those situations where you have to trust that Hyde and Elias know what they're doing, I guess.

I'm going to the game next Wednesday. If I'm subjected to Frazier, Mazara, Cordero, etc... I'll be annoyed. But at least I'll be watching baseball in the sun.

..and you won’t be in Maryland.  Things could be worse.

I’m getting a very good feeling about Stowers, Ortiz, and Vavra.   That’s not a knock on Westburg, Kjerstad, etc.  I just mean that I think all three I mentioned look very good.   Ortiz has hit the ball hard at least 4 times with no strikeouts in 9 AB and had a very strong AB against Bednar, the Pirates closer.   Vavra proved he could have good AB’s last year.   He hit for average and extra base power (not in homers) in the minors.  We didn’t see that hitter last year.  There was a note that he worked on getting stronger this off-season.  Or maybe he’s just more confident.  Either way, he looks good.   Stowers just seems better.   Maybe a little more under control with his swing.  I’m not sure but the dude hits the ball hard and goes oppo too.   Just a matter of time before they start going over the fence.   I do think Ortiz is ready NOW.   Elias said he still has stuff to work on.  Haha.  So does Jorge Mateo.

This is not unusual for the first week of ST games.   There will  be cuts coming in the near future.

Its so obvious that Hyde does not care about winning at this point.   He will replace a  good hitter with a minor leaguer in the 4th inning with runners on base.

The only real impression anyone should have after one ST week is that it’s too early to form an impression.

that being said, fun to see so much young talent in camp now, and a lot of them have come in playing well from the start.

    • Funny thing is, if the O's win, I'm generally so psyched on my way out that I don't even notice all of these annoyances. I'm just happy that the team won. That was my experience a lot this year when the team was doing well. Unfortunately about half of my 13 game season ticket plan was in August and September, plus I got to watch one of the pathetic WC games. You can smooth over a fair bit of fan annoyance with winning, but at the end of the day, someone has to care about the little things and actually invest money to make them better. There's no longer any question about whether the O's will be here to stay. The government and the team are aligned: OPACY and the Orioles are here, and we're going to make the best of what we have, and make it a centerpiece of Baltimore. That's great. But now they have to put their money where their mouths are. Show fans from all walks of life that we are able to reimagine OPACY and the surrounding area in the image of an efficient, clean, 21st century facility, starting with things as basic as infrastructure and plumbing, and ranging as far as parking, public trans, and food at the park. Honestly? I sort-of understood why they weren't investing in anything in the years when (1) the team was bad, and (2) ownership wasn't invested in the team, and (3) the renewal of the lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority was in doubt. The vast majority of points (1), (2) and (3) above are now non-issues, or have been majorly mitigated in the past 2 years. So it's time to make things right. Otherwise why bother with the long-term commitment at all, if you're just going to let the project languish?

    • Highlight: Dodgers at Padres (10/08/2024) | MLB Gameday According to the announcers, Manny said that Buck Showalter taught him this.
    • I still think Soto (Juan, not any of the others) checks off all the boxes here.  Insanely productive, plays hard, can rub opponents the wrong way on the field but is generally liked off of it.
    • We're not a mid-market team. Small market for sure.
    • Things looking bleak for KC. They left 11 runners on base, got a taste of their own medicine, I guess.
