Anyone tried the Immaculate Grid game?

I had the immaculate screw up today.  Very easy grid but I got my very first guess wrong because I mistakenly thought Roger Maris was in the Hall of Fame. Then, when I got to 7 correct answers, the game cut me off.  I must have clicked some wrong answer without realizing it somewhere along the way.   That has to be the easiest grid I ever blew.

And for the record, if we are going to put a 38 WAR player in the Hall, I’d rather have Maris in there than Harold Baines.  At least Maris held an iconic record for 45 years.

Spoiler

Steve Carlton, Ozzie Smith, Jack Clark

Eddie Murray, Howard Johnson, Todd Hundley

Tom Seaver, Reggie Sanders, Tony Perez

It's been my theory for a few months now that I've got a pool of about 100-150 players that I continue to use and draw from.  I've used all of these players today multiple times, with probably the exception of one of them.

So I started a spreadsheet today that I'm going to add to every time I use a player for the first time, then an asterisk in the next column for how many times I've used that player if they've already been used.  For example, if I use Ozzie Smith tomorrow, he gets another asterisk by his name.

I'm bored.

9/9 61 today.  My Orioles 10-game winner scored 0.04% and I was also under 1% for White Sox 10 game winner and Orioles and Cleveland 40-WAR players.  I didn’t score very well on the two-team boxes.   There was a player who could have filled 6 of the 9 boxes today.

9/9 20 today. I think that’s my all time lowest score. Having an Orioles row helps.

Sidney Ponson, Wally Bunker, Luis Aparicio

Bert Blyleven, Jack McDowell, Lou Boudreau

Steve Carlton, Tom Seaver, Dick Allen

Most proud of the Carlton pull. Was gonna put Thome or Pyrzinski but I knew that would blow my score out of the water. Carlton’s late career Topps cards are why I knew he was a Twin and a White Sox.

That’s a great pull.   I was happy to come up with Pierzynski.  For a long time I could only come up with Thome and I needed to use him for CLE/MIN.

My board was:

Erickson, Mercedes, Finley

Thome, Barker, Tiant

Pierzynski, Peters, Fisk

Finley with a 40 win career is a great pull, as is Mercedes.

I didn’t feel like blowing my grid today but I thought Yennier Cano had played a game or two for the Twins before we got him, and I was right.   I wonder how that would have scored.  Also thought Dave Winfield might have played for both Minnesota and Cleveland and that was right, too.  I probably could have saved some big points there too.

    • Lots of panic around here right now. Guys forget the Rangers were third in their division and only had 88 wins last season.
    • This is my favorite Basallo clip so far. The swing is so fluid, it looks so effortless and the ball is just absolutely destroyed. It reminds me of homers by prime Chris Davis.
    • The Orioles were bound to hit a rut. Get your hand off the panic button.    The Orioles aren’t signing Bauer. So just Fudget about him. The don’t need to trade Holliday and Kjerstad. I’m okay if he finds a guy worth paying a top guy return along with a few others ala Kirby, Gilbert, Castillo etc.   Stop patting yourself on the back. We lost as did everyone else to a hot Rangers team. We are still 7 up in the top wildcard slot. And as Texas proved is all you have to do is get in to have a shot.
    • It’s becoming unglued?  Because of losing streak that almost every team goes through in any given season?  Really?
    • The Os pen isn’t good. With DC out, they just don’t have any arms you want to rely on. They don’t miss a lot of bats, don’t get a lot of Ks and the walk rate is higher than you want it to be. Kimbrel is fine but nothing special. He has been exactly what I thought he would be and maybe even a little better than that but hes not what we had last year, which was special. Cano is better than a dime a dozen guy but not by a ton.    Baker looks good and maybe he’s poised to have the year some of us thought he would have in 2023 but he has a ways to go to prove that.
    • Yes, I bolded that part to indicate that was to what I was referring.
    • This group hasn’t burned you though. This is the biggest test for Elias since the team got good. The bottom line is the Os need pitching help and they have too much talent in the minors and too many subpar guys in the majors eating up at bats. You built this farm system up and are so proud of it and now it’s time to use it to its full potential.    I understand the Holliday injury likely sets him back until after the AS break, at least but assuming he’s hitting (which he has been or he’s been walking a ton) and once he is able to start throwing pain free, he needs to be up here.  Mayo needs to be up here yesterday.  It’s just time.  Sitting on ML ready top 10 prospects when below average MLers are playing in front of them just doesn’t make sense. You have a glaring weakness of too many lefties and a manager/GM that just won’t play lefties vs lefties. You have McCann playing way too much. Mayo needs to be up here right now. And then you need to use the rest of the system(and maybe ML team), not Basallo, and go get the pitching you need.
