Mariners looking to trade pitching for hitting?

Focus will rightly be on the SP, but Paul Sewald only has one Arb year left before FA, same as Santander, if they fall out of it.     I think Sewald is better than Scott Barlow.

Barlow is 3 years younger (30 vs 33).  Does that concern you when you are ponying up trade capital for both years?

I think the quality could be worth it.    They are both on nice 3-year runs...here are qualified Relievers 2021-2023; K-BB sees Barlow about 75th percentile, but Sewald in the mid-90's.

Wouldn't say no to both!

Considering we do not expect the Orioles to acquire a big name starting pitcher, lengthening the bullpen for the playoffs may be the better move anyway, for what they'd have to give up.

That could bring a lot of names into the equation, not just from the Mariners.  But Sewald would be a really good get.  The guy's been money since he came to Seattle.

Urias and Hays for Gilbert?  O's trade from a glut to a team looking for hitting, and add some pitching.  See if they want Cole Irvin too and maybe get someone else back.

Gilbert still has 4 years of control after this year. Hays has 2 and Urias has 3, but Urias is already 29 so those extra years aren’t as valuable. The Orioles would have to include significant prospect capital as well.

It’s hard to envision any Gilbert trade that doesn’t include a top 100 prospect going to SEA.

Would Mullins + Ortiz for Gilbert work?

I think the O's would trade Hays or Santander before they trade Mullins.  Mullins is a better defender and he's still kind of the heart and soul of the team.  But with the team playing as well as it is I think it's less and less they'll trade any of the starting outfielders.  I think Ortiz, Norby, Kjerstad and even Cowser may be the most likely to be traded, but that's just my gut saying so.

They are as likely to trade Gilbert as the Orioles are to trade Gunnar.  Imagine if G-Rod was actually what we expected him to be and then envision what you would want to trade him away.

They are going to give us their number 2 pitcher who has 3 1/2 years left of control for Hays and spare parts?

Would this be in a world that assumes their GM is brain dead or has lost grip of reality?

Kjerstad was mentioned as one of three untouchables.

I think our fans undervalue Urias. He’s a very solid infielder and not an automatic out. Plus he has some pop. He’s not more than solid but he’s only a spare part because we are stacked.

Yeah, GMs like DD only come once in a generation.  There must have been a feeding frenzy to fleece the O's.
