So the Rays gave up Kyle Manzardo (1B), MLB's 37th ranked prospect. For context Kjerstad is is 36. There's no way I would have given up Kjrstad for Civale.

Yeah, I don't make that trade either, I don't think what Civale is doing this year is sustainable. He's a decent pitcher, but Civale's BABIP isn't going to stay at .243 forever.

I hope not, but it's a real possibility that he does stand pat.

I will be shocked if that happens. I don’t expect anything spectacular. I think Hyde all but said we will see a new starter in Toronto if you read his comments after Wells went down.

I'm not sure Manzardo is a physically finished product and he is historically an extremely strong OBP guy. I think he's gonna be darn good.

Fair enough. I guess I'm having a hard time envisioning a positive reaction if the Orioles were the Guardians in this case. A controllable SP for one 1B prospect and 0 additional pieces? Like, you gotta get a low-A SP flier at least. In this market?

He's a good prospect. He doesn't have your typical 1B power, he's more a 15-20 HR guy, but has great bat to ball skills. Not sure I'd have him top 40, maybe more in the 75-100 range based on position, but he's a good get.

I just a read report where someone compared him to Vinnie P, which seems like a pretty good comp based on your description. I like the the move for Cleveland given their SP depth and that fact that Civiale was probably due for a pretty hefty payroll bump next season, even though the underlying stats suggest he isn't this good. Then again, Tampa's probably one of the best orgs at evaluating pitchers...

There was about an 18 hour lull from Angels replacing Ward with Grichuk and adding Cron last night to this Civale news now, but I'd bet in the final 26 hours we get more than one transaction an hour on average.

Most of them condensed tomorrow afternoon of course, as we see who likes playing chicken the longest.

I don't think so either. The only thing that makes me question it (the underlying numbers) is the fact that it was Tampa. They rarely miss on pitchers. Remember when everyone was rolling their eyes at that Eflin contract in the offseason?

We are also comparing a 24 year old with 22 year old. Manzardo reminds me of Nathaniel Lowe the Rays previously traded away.

Guess they're high on Manzardo.

I'm definitely high on his name 👍

Yes but how good? To me, it's really got be like a #3 SP (not expecting an TOR), otherwise it's kinda of meh.  Yes, you could get a back of rotation SP, and the IP would be valuable in lieu of Wells, but it's not a needle mover.

He definitely seems like a guy that was rated in the top 75 because of his monster year last year, and then just matriculated up lists based on players graduating and losing their prospect status. Basically in no world is this guy a better prospect than Kjerstad or Mayo. He’s more in line with Norby. Just my opinion.

What is really funny is that people were mad that we literally traded cash considerations for O’Hearn’s $1.5 million contract.
