Did we just begin the most important 48 hour period in franchise history?

Is that an overstatement? I’ll admit I’m a hyperbole guy, but it sure feels like it could be. There are pros and cons to hitting the trade market aggressively, moderately, mildly, and not at all. Whatever the choice is, Elias has to nail it. We should absolutely not just be glad to be here just because it’s a a year ahead of the projections.

If we can go out and win this thing, then we should try like hell to do it. If after a long, hard look in the mirror, we don’t think we are legitimate candidates win it all, then we should call it like it is and stand pat. Hell, maybe we get lucky even if we do nothing. We’ve won a ton of games with this talent, and tons of series along the way.

In our previous runs, we didn’t have the talent pool to leverage to improve the big club that we do now. This specific sort of pressure did not exist in 2012, 14, or 16. Mike and Sig know our guys better than anyone, but they don’t have a crystal ball. Whatever they do, it has to be right.

I think that there will be a serious cost to not doing anything in terms of alienating a big segment of their potential customer/fanbase.

Mostly everyone already has suspensions about John Angelos. And the Orioles do not enjoy the best reputation in the community.

For some people who have put up with a lot of awfulness by this org, to get this close and then decide to pass/punt because of pure cheapness, it may do serious damage to a brand that was still trying to repair itself.

Well we ARE in first place AND have Rod. & maybe Means here for the post season.  Please understand that at this stage of the teams trying for the wild card spots or in fine tuning their rosters, are not that interested in our  hot shot but green and untested high ceiling prospects.  Other teams want to fill holes with tested veterans. Teams still in the running, want to hold onto their pitching so they will charge a lot.  Sometimes the best trades are the ones that you don't make.

To me the drafts with Adley/Gunnar and Holliday were much more important.

Drafting Adley wasn’t even a choice. He was the consensus #1 served to us on a platter. Holiday, at least as of right now, looks like a savvy choice given the number of other potential blue chip prospects. Still, the draft is a crap shoot, and now a lot of those guys have very real and impactful value. What we decide to do with them right now is critically important.

What is this in response to?

Why does it have to be either extreme? I have absolutely no reason to not believe Elias when he says that the front office is looking to upgrade the team but that they're not going to overextend themselves. If the right opportunity presents itself now then take it. If not then pinch your pennies and wait for the opportunity to inevitably arise in six months or twelve months when the team is most likely better positioned. This is an approach that might not maximize your chances of winning at any one time but does over the long-term.

The team is in first place in the AL while playing one of the game's toughest schedules, and having one of the games lowest payrolls.

Nobody cares if you're butt-hurt because they aren't making it rain.

Drafting Adley was not as slam dunk as you make it sound. Bobby Witt got a lot of respect in that draft and there was reasonable concern of drafting catchers 1-1. He was my pick for sure. I said that more about the investment. The draft is 15 million dollar investment when you are that bad. Not including the scouts and all the player personnel involved. If you draft well you do not have to trade. That’s my personal opinion. The next 2 days are very important for sure and I am hoping for 2 arms minimum.

I would respond but why? … Moving on

I think the average fan will shrug no matter what happens the next 48 hours. They'll either say man I wish we got a guy, or well I hope the guy we got is good. There's no slam dunk move out there that's changing the fate of the franchise.

An incredibly, incredibly small number of fans are sitting at home saying John Angelos, you'd better make a move or I'm out!

And really that number should be zero, but some folks are gonna be weird.

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if Soto or Judge get fitted for a first base glove very soon.
    • Posts like this make my head hurt.  What?
    • Yea and it’s not only that he was recovering from the injury itself, he also didn’t get the ST reps in. I was never worried about him because of that.  That injury and time probably eliminated any chance he had at making the Ml roster late in the season but I would imagine he’s in AAA within a month or so and will get in 200ish PA at that level.
    • Its natural right now to compare him with Spencer Jones on NYY AA Somerset. Jones got a lot of press in spring training with a few highlights illustrating his rare human ability to do the Judge-Giancarlo things, but AA pitching is giving him a hard time overall as June opens up. As Cashman maneuvers his big pieces, Judge, Soto, Jasson and Jones can't all be outfielders for them in 2 years.
    • My guess is you run that same lineup out as yesterday but switch Rutchman with McCann. With so many games coming up a full day off for Adley wouldn’t hurt.
    • Did the Rangers have elite pitching last year?
    • It could be Mayo instead but big pieces wise, we're nearing the point there could be a joke that the Orioles defense of having the #1 prospect could be completed by Mayo or Basallo even though Jackson Holliday is still eligible for the list. The Ryans stand strong and list makers could see all of them side by side as Norfolk tries to defend its AAA championship. Nationals have a couple guys who I have a feeling their life mastery of the game of baseball competitiveness will correspond with them earning about 128 at-bats late this season.    They are precisely that good.       Futures Game is Saturday 7/13 a hair under 6 weeks away.     That highlight conjured a happy image of Juan Soto's head on Yordan Alvarez's body.    Soto's a middle of the field guy like Mountcastle, and it'll be fun to watch where Basallo ends up Pull%...I believe turn and burn flag court training basic to today's Oriole Way. MLB.com list this morning has Kjerstad with the three younger guys all in the top 25.
