Only three other  current teams have not made it to the Workd Series since then. One went the year before and one played the  Orioles in the World Series, last time they made it.

I was at game 5 in Philly with a friend.  Fresh out of college.  I never thought that would be the last one I would see so far in my lifetime.  Waited for the team to come out of the locker room after the game.  I remember a couple Orioles carrying out a completely passed out Dennis Martinez to put him on the team bus.  Good times!!  I yelled to John Miller I bet you are glad you left Boston for Baltimore and he yelled Hell Yeah!

I was in Paris and the International Herald Tribune only came out twice a week so I got the news late.  My girlfriend and I killed a bottle of good Burgundy in celebration nonetheless.

One tidbit from me... my dad had box seats for Game 6. I'm pretty sure that Game 5 is the only time I ever hoped that the O's lost a game.

I was also at Game 5 in Philadelphia.

I can remember Scott McGregor threw his first warmup pitch before the Phillies came to bat in the bottom of the first inning, and a fan near me exclaimed, "Wow!  This guy doesn't throw hard at all!  We ought to kill this guy!"

Nine innings later, the Phillies still hadn't scored.

I remember walking down the street to get to my car after the game and there was a vendor along the sidewalk trying to sell pennants.  He said "Don't be mad.  I've got winners pennants right here.  Orioles pennants."

He didn't sell too many to the disgruntled Phillies fans.

I was 18, me and my 13 year old brother shook up bottles of Coke and orange soda in the backyard and sprayed each other in celebration! Can't believe it's been 40 years.

Sophomore year of college.  Honestly, I was still spoiled and believed that success from Baltimore was expected and virtually guaranteed, even though I remembered the sting of '79 and that wretched song.  I remember it clearly, but in hindsite I didn't appreciate it because I thought it was the beginning of something.  Of course, it was a beginning of sorts, but not the one I imagined.

I have enjoyed this season so much because of the feel that something special is coming or is actually here.  But the playoffs were a harsh reminder that winning it all is still a ways off for our Birds.

It's the best time to be a fan since those days.  I am eager for camp to begin already.

I remember watching that last game in a farm house on the MD/Pa border at a friend of my Dad's house. 

I was 13 years old and I remember my parents telling me we were going to my Dad's friend's house for the day. I was like, "What? You know the World Series is on today right? Do they have a TV?" 

My parents assured me they did and thankfully they did have a TV in their small living room. While most everyone else was doing other things, I sat and watched the game and still remember Eddie's upper deck home run and of course Cal catching that soft liner to end the game! 

I remember thinking this would just be a regular thing since we had Cal and Eddie. At 13, I didn't understand how old that team was and how it was at the end of it's run. 

If someone would have told me it would be 40 years later and the Orioles have not been back to the World Series I would thought they were crazy.

Hopefully this core under Elias will end this streak soon.
