interloper
Seen this a few places and figured I'd throw it out there. I don't really buy it, honestly, but maybe it's some conversation fodder for the board. https://www.si.com/mlb/orioles/news/target-baltimore-orioles-now-unavailable-after-signing-mega-deal-brad9 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/orioles-notes-rotation-nola-stadium.html Basically Jeff Passan said we had interest. Malike
I have no doubt they had interest, I also had no doubt Philly was going to pony up and keep him there. They love him.
Frobby
Insert genetic joke about “yeah, and I’m interested in [insert name of beautiful actress or model here], too.”

She's in the laces out process and placing it in the next 3-4 days.......... Charlie Brown has sized up the goalposts and is DAMN READY to make it happen this year!!!!!!!!! Ripken
Yeah, interested in another team paying him.
sportsfan8703
Apparently he turned down 4/54 with 48 in deferred money till 2060.

Lol, so nowhere even close to the ballpark of the 7/$172M that he got. I don't know whether to be happy that we made a bid or embarrassed that it was so far off.

You gotta think that for Elias to maintain the respect of his peers that he doesn't even make offers he knows are laughable. The sad part is that Koby Perez might be able, and has been able, to authorize more money to "free agents" than Elias.
oriole
No, I don’t think they were.
CaptainRedbeard
Despite being a great pitcher, Nola had a bad ERA this year. I’m guessing the Orioles were only interested in the slim chance that he was going to end up with a below market deal with the Orioles being an attractive rebound destination given the wall and a competitive team. I’d be floored if the Orioles were in on Nola at anywhere near what he got, but I suppose it’s positive they were at least doing their due diligence. Aglets
Honest question. If you're Elias and Nola's agent called you directly.........and said, "Hey, my guy will sign with you tomorrow for 7 years $172M." Would you say yes? I don't think I would. 24fps
For Orioles fans, life in the Angelos Era has turned all humor into gallows humor. All suggestions unironically become serious and even the slightest impulse toward optimism is quickly crushed as flat as three day old roadkill in the sun. Except for one whimsical, child-friendly joke - Lucy pulling away the football is still a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
