Is there a team in baseball not named Dodgers that wouldn't say that about their projected #5 starter?

Honestly not even sure who their #5 is right now. Buehler, Ohtani, and Kershaw will start the year on the IL (or in Ohtani’s case, will DH only). I think they’d sign Montgomery too. Glasnow is likely to be sidelined at least part of the season because he always is.

I’d definitely trade Kremer if we could get a good return for him and sign Montgomery, but bullpen is definitely a more pressing need.

FA signings mean a more active waiver wire market. We have an open spot with being able to put Bautista on the 60 day IL. One name that is interesting…

OF Simon Muzziotti L/L Phillies - currently in DFA limbo

Currently ranked as the Phillies #8 prospect by mlb pipeline https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2023/phillies/

He’s LH. Can play CF and all three OF spots. Has an option for 2024. More speed than pop.

He’d give us some AAA depth behind McKenna/Hilliard that both are out of options. This would be similar thinking as to claiming Soto. AAA depth. Some prospect ceiling. Maybe we can sprinkle some Orange Oriole prospect dust on him. Try and tap into his power. 7 HR, 26 steals last season.

Tell me you don't have a good farm system w/o telling me you don't have a good farm system.  This guy sounds like McKenna lite.

You don’t see how it’s important to have a guy like McKenna on your 40 man roster? Also, are you saying the O’s don’t have a good farm system?

I think he was talking about the Phillies’ farm system.

1. How many of those teams are spending less than $100M on their payroll?

2. The goal is to be better than the other teams in baseball.

I have been suggesting this all off season because the free agent period just lasts to long and drags out.  I know it won’t happen but since the players won’t sign off on a deadline how about all teams just make their own.   What would players do if all the owners just stopped signing guys after a set deadline forcing the players hands.

I'm guessing another round of this.

No, I'm saying the Phillies system can't be very good if a backup OF is their #8 prospect.

Red Sox sell some 2024 wins to the Royals, giving up John Schreiber for a $400K college arm with a good A-ball season.

Interesting action by Craig Breslow and J.J. Picollo on 2024 tournament aspirations.    Picollo's next conversation with Bobby Witt will perhaps be more upbeat than Breslow's next one with Rafael Devers.

Feels clear here the Red Sox are peacing out on 2024 as they prepare for the coming Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Kyle Teel rosters.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
