I’m not sure this entirely Boras’ fault.  A lot of the bigger spenders had some issues this offseason that don’t normally plague them.

It definitely looks bas for Boras but I think there is more to it than that.

If the Yankees really did offer him 150 so late in the offseason, and he signed for 62, that has to be a loss. How can he improve on the year he had last year to be more marketable next offseason?

Does that mean there are no other contributing factors?

I’m sure there’s many factors, but effort seems to coincide with the rise in injuries. There were still lots of injuries before last year.

Ok.  So someone mentioned the pitch clock and another poster asked for the link.   Your post seemed to imply no need for that we already know the answer.

That’s on Snell, not Boras.

Now maybe Farhan Zaidi can work down his list to working on bolstering his SS position with Jorge Mateo for the NL tournament race.

Mgr Bob Melvin hinted that Ahmed is ahead of Luciano. Fangraphs has Ahmed as the SS with Luciano in AAA too.  (They have Holliday as our 2B.)

Mateo or Ahmed?  I haven't gone stat hunting but feels like a near bump.  Age and speed definitely to Mateo.  Maybe an edge to Mateo overall.

Westburg, Mountcastle, Hays, and Santander would all scratch an itch for SFG's RHH.  Assuming we have any type of appetite to deal from the top (which I doubt).

Even if Boras' clients were plagued by rare circumstances this off-season, it still serves as a reminder to our young guys that those rare circumstances can and will periodically occur. Even if it doesn't move the needle for them a lot, every little bit of extra incentive to get them to sign now should be viewed as beneficial IMO. Hopefully the combination of this off-season's signing issues plus Rubenstein's acquisition align just right for our young guys to lock in deals this year.

Looks like not enough data on the pitch clock and injuries yet. Some heads of pitching academies think aeticle doesn't cause any more injuries. Max Scherzer says it does. Dr. Andrews is collecting data that so far on limited data implies it does. Here is an older  article on the pitch clock:

And the doctor in this article says he sees no correlation. Other doctors disagree. Probably won't know for years and much data collections and studies.

Good news is almost no big pitching upgrades for the AL East.  Not sure I would call Stroman an upgrade, more of patching a hole.  I like how the offseason unfolded w/ most of the big upgrades other than Soto going to teams other than our direct competitors.

We’ve dodged some serious bullets coming into the AL East and those teams overall might have a net loss collectively. Combine that with the injury to Cole, and our injuries to Bradish/Means don’t look that bad. Especially since Burnes pretty much replaced Bradish and Means was a non factor last year. We’re pretty much looking at replacing Bautista with Kimbrel, and Gibson with Irvin.

A wash in talent isn’t good for the rest of the AL East considering our overwhelming advantage in prospects.

The biggest problem I have with this article is that it's from 2016.  How is it even relevant since it's before the pitch clock was implemented at the Major League level?

Let's see where Montgomery goes. Maybe he was waiting for Snell to set his market. He honestly makes sense for every one of the AL East teams, IMO. Boy I'd love to get him on the Snell deal but less AAV.

Until the sale becomes official we are unfortunately stuck operating with JA as our owner.
