Hasn’t been a factor since 2019. I wonder what they see in him.

He pitched pretty well for the Brewers for about 8 starts then kind of turned back into a pumpkin.   This was last year.

He and Jose Quintana look like Colombia's highest achieving pitchers in MLB.

At one moment in his life he was Grayson Rodriguez, one of the world's very best young pitchers.

The BP Annual has that in 2023 his most thrown fast pitch was a sinker averaging under 90mph.

The ~3275 pitches/season he threw in 2014-2015 would have put him on the MLB lead for 2022-2023.

Hello Chris Holt.   Teheran (age 33) looks like a project in ST for the O's pitching lab.   Teheran pitched 129 innings and 24 starts last year between the majors and the minors.   He added a cutter that batters only hit .219.  His curve had a .074 average.

His sinker  got hit at a .285 rate and it was only 90 mph but Teheran has not averaged 92 with any pitch since 2015.

In 2019 he had a 10-11, 3.81 ERA, 33 S, 174 IP with 89.7 mph fastball while pitching for the Braves.

He had a shoulder strain in 2021 and the recovery was long.  2023 was  the first indication that he might have something left.

With Tylers Wells and Irvin pushed into the rotation the O's could use a long man in the pen to begin the season.  Depending on what the pitching lab is able to do for him he could fill that role.  And if there is another injury in the rotation Teheran is a candidate to fill the void.

He has an opt out from his minor league contract if he does not make the team.

First 6 starts last year for the Brewers.

IP 35.1

H  23

BB  8

K   23

ER   6

Next 5  - IP 27.2, H 37, BB 3, K 9, ER 27

That took him thru July 29.  Looks like he went on the IL or Phantom IL and didn’t pitch until August 25 in the minors.  Came back up September 21 and finished with 3 multi inning relief appearances.

IP 9, H 7, BB 2, K 6, ER 2

July 30 article

ATLANTA (AP) — “The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Julio Teheran on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with a right hip impingement.

The move came after Teheran allowed nine runs on 11 hits in five innings in Saturday night’s 11-5 loss to his former team, the Atlanta Braves.

Teheran (2-5, 4.74 ERA in 11 games) has lost his last three decisions.”
