And in that same time frame, Hays is 212/276/343. 71 wRC+. 337 PA 

Basically 700 PA of 610 OPS ball and and a wRC+ around 69.

That’s a lot of bad hitting from 2 key players.

And on top of that Santander is putting up a .564 OPS versus RHP this year, but he's hitting 1.027 OPS against LHP. The outfield is a problem and there's no reason Stowers shouldn't be seeing significant playing time if he's going to be on the the roster.

And they were two of the team's better hitters in the first half last year. At that July 1 date both were still over .800 OPS.

Same. I think he's capable of being a 20+ HR guy with regular AB's. 

 

Right now he doesn't have to be Barry Bonds in order to be an upgrade over any of the 3. It's a plus that he hits lefties at a decent clip too.

Yep..I thought Mullins was directly due to injuries but maybe not.

At first, sure.  Give them some time to adjust and see if they can figure things out.  Ordinarily I wouldn't tell a team trying to win a WS to do this, but given how little we're getting from Hays, Cedric and Santander (against RHP), why not?

But they are vets with a long track record (kinda).  They should be given TONS to rope to hang themselves....err, tons of time to get right before cutting their playing time much at all!  Right?    Besides, the team is leading the league in scoring and we are winning at a great clip (ignoring recent games of course) so why should we make any changes!?!?!??!

Was listening to the game on radio yesterday and Steve Melewski mentioned how he talked to both Stowers and Hyde before the game.

Stowers feels really confident, his time is now, can contribute to the MLB team on a daily basis if allowed.

Hyde said he would like to play Stowers nearly everyday if possible; liked the way he swung the bat in St. Louis but he believes he still needs to find ways to get Mullins and Hays going as they are veterans so he will pick his spots to get Stowers his starts.

Hyde rides the hot hand so hopefully this was the game Stowers needed to start getting some AB's.

I'm glad Stowers had a great game but he had a 111 wRC+ in AAA at 26 years old. Holliday has a 134 wRC+ as a 20-year-old. In a league that has terrible pitching, Stowers struck out 27% of the time and was batting .240 with an OBP of .315, he was slugging which has never been the question but still has an OPS lower than Holliday despite being 6 years older. I'd be a little guarded in the hyperbole surrounding this sample size.
