Are we sure Felix won’t pitch this season?

Let’s not forget we just had Means with a failed procedure by the same surgeon.   Meister basically does everyone’s surgery now, but the point still stands and I am not aware of anything that says more rest is bad.  September would be less than a year which is pretty fast.

Just because Means is having a second surgery doesn't mean the first was a failure.

He came back and pitched successfully.

The new ligament doesn't come with a warranty.

The new ligament lasted 8 MLB outings.  That suggests that the healing wasn’t correct or something went wrong with rehab.  It is not normal to blow out that quickly again.

It's not normal.

Throwing a ball over 90 MPH isn't normal either.

It’s definitely not typical.  Just bad luck?   What else can you say?

He had setbacks during rehab. He was shut down before the ALDS with elbow soreness. He started this year on the IL.  Nothing points to the surgery being a success.

Except the important part, he pitched effectively in the majors post surgery.

Guys with unsuccessful surgeries don't get to do that.

If you set that bar any lower it would be underground.

So the new ligament is just supposed to be unbreakable for a few years?

Sounds fanciful.

I would expect a new ligament to last at least 3 years on a pitcher who doesn’t even throw that hard and doesn’t have a slider, yes.

"Expect" being the key point.

I agree you should expect it.

But some might last ten years and some ten starts.

It's a range.

All the other people that had the surgery and came back were also throwing over 90.  Obviously there was an issue with the surgery, healing, or rehab.

I respect your stubbornness. It’s ok to say that the odds are here that something went wrong with the surgery, healing, or rehab given the result.  Doesn’t mean it was 100% for sure this, but more likely than not—which is the world we live in.

I don't like the assumption that the doctor in question was at fault.

Which is how i took the earlier comment about it being the same doctor.

It’s a very, very short list.
