Since 1901 16 teams have played at least .688 ball for a full season (non-COVID edition), and just 14 over a full season of at least 150 games.

Over that same span 38 teams have played at least .688 ball over their first 60 games. 11 of those teams (including the 2020 Dodgers) didn't reach 100 wins on the season. Also, remember, there are some teams that won 111+ games and started worse than 42-18, so these aren't full subsets of the first group. For example, the 1906 Cubs, owner of the best record since 1900, started 41-19 and then got hot. The '22 Dodgers were 37-23 on their way to 111-51.

The '26 Yanks started the year 43-17 and ended up 91-63 with Ruth and Gehrig in the lineup. As mentioned the 2022 Yanks were similar. The 1928 Yanks started 45-15 and went 56-38 the rest of the way. The '53 Yanks went 46-14 to start, and 53-38 the rest of the way.

The best 60-game start ever was the 1912 Giants, who went 48-11-1, and 55-37 (.597) from then on out.

I'd guess there's about an 80-90% chance the Yanks win less than 111 games this year.

The Phillies looked pretty fraudulent if I'm honest, but it was nice to get them before they got Turner back.

I'm more concerned about the Yankees series where we have 5-and-dive Suarez and rookie Povich and please-god-continue-to-be-good Irvin. In particular two lefties against Judge. I think if we get one I will basically take it.

Yankee lineup is pretty soft, if you ask me.   Obviously Judge and Soto are great.   But after that, they have NO ONE with more than 12 at bats with an OPS over .781.  The Orioles start about 5 guys every game with an OPS over .800.   Their regulars at C/1B/2B/3B all have OPS of .643 or less.    On our entire current roster we have one regular and one backup catcher with a lower OPS than that, while they start 4 guys like that pretty much every day.   And we have guys with .664 or .684 OPSs and people complain here when a  lineup comes out with them in it!

Obviously their pitching is great.   Best in MLB.   (We are 2nd bestERA in MLB).   And the way the rotation is falling we won't have our best against them.   And they are the home team for this one.   And Judge and Soto can do a ton of damage on their own despite the dropoff to to the rest of the lineup.   It's going to be a tough series with two of the best teams in MLB.

But I will be disappointed if we lose the series.   We are good, they are good.   Time to make a statement.

Why the down vote @DirtyBird? I literally saw you post that the season is over after we lost Bradish so this feels pretty hypocritical.

I'm just stating that I wish we had our top 3 starters going against NY. Not saying we're not capable of winning the series.

I would have signed in blood for 12-5 at this point of the gauntlet.   I do feel fortunate to catch Philly without Turner or Realmuto, but scoring 17 runs in 3 games has nothing to do with that.

Up to the task and then some during the gauntlet. I’ll take it. The energy coming off the TV from the Yard was electric. It doesn’t get easier, but they are exceeding my expectations during this tough run through the schedule.

It doesn’t get easier, but the success over the first 17 games takes a little pressure off the back 13.  Of course, the Yankees are not letting up the pressure on their end.

The Astros are disappointing and we should take at least 2 from them.  Cleveland seems to give us fits though.
