Trey Gibson 2024

Gibson threw 5.1 shutout innings in his first Aberdeen game, a very nice beginning.

It did seem like he was at Delmarva a long time for an older pitcher dominating as much as he was, so curious to see more High-A results.

I texted him last week to congratulate him on his promotion, he has been on a pitch limit between 50 and 60 for the first few months. He has only probably pitched 20 competitive inning in the last 2 years, so I'm sure they are trying to build him up a little.

I'm a little bias but his stuff is as good as anybody in the system right now and his command is getting a little sharper each outing. The Orioles got a steal by signing him as a free agent.

Gibson has been solid since his promotion.  Tonight, he allowed 1 ER in 4.2 IP on 3 hits and 1 walk, striking out 4.  He has a 3.15 ERA in Aberdeen after 3.40 in Delmarva.

Trey was up to 98.1 on dugout gun last night. Nice to see him healthy and getting better each start.

I wonder if Trey will start next year in Aberdeen, or jump right to Bowie.  He’s only got 7 games/5 starts/28 innings at Aberdeen, and maybe another 2 starts/10 innings left before the season ends.  Elias has normally kept guys at Aberdeen a bit longer than that, but Gibson has been awfully effective.

I would be surprised if Gibson is not challenged at AA before the year is out.

He is hoping so, they have talked to him about the plan for the rest of the year. I'm thinking he will get a start or two at Bowie and also told me their are a lot of impressive arms in Aberdeen right now.

Gibson took about as hard luck a loss as you can have last night.  After five innings he was throwing a one-hit shutout.  The first batter of the 6th reached on an error and Gibson was pulled from the game.  The reliever uncorked a wild pitch and then an RBI single, so the unearned, go ahead run was charged to Gibson and he ended up taking the loss.   Still a nice outing from Gibson, who lowered his Aberdeen ERA to 2.45.

Some of this may be he's a slightly older guy dominating A-ball hitters, but when I looked up Luis De Leon's elite GB% the other day, Gibson wasn't that far behind him on the leaderboard.

All Affiliated minor league pitchers at 80 innings, a group of 462 this morning, De Leon is 3rd and Gibson is 10th in GB%
