If the rumours were true that Angelos and T Rowe agreed and/or were working towards naming rights to OPACY, there were still the minutia of the MSA agreeing to anything from a naming perspective...and we all know how irked everybody was w/ Angelos about lying about selling the club. 

Now, is it possible that this is Rubenstein's concession to T Rowe after acquiring the team? Sure. But he's going balls to the wall otherwise. Obnoxious batches on the uniform, huge branding in the OF, and the most prominent location in the stadium with ostentatious branding...not exactly subtle. So, while it might have stemmed the tide regarding naming rights to the stadium, it almost feels like it's a foregone conclusion that it will soon happen. After all, Rubenstein and Arougheti are private equity boys. And this is what they do. They are never/rarely going to turn down cashflow.

The big question for me remains whether any of this money will find its way back into the on the field product. So far Rubenstein has been pretty mealy-mouthed regarding increased spending on FA deals or extensions for the young stars. That said, I'd rather action than talk, but to me the honeymoon period for Rubenstein is over. This trade deadline and offseason will speak volumes. I'd love to see this organization be ran like some combination of the Braves/Astros.

I just accepted that commercialism is part of American sports industry.  However it doesn’t mean I have to like it .  I developed a habit of focusing on the actions taking place on the field , the court , the track , the rink , the ring , etc , etc . It doesn’t take away my enjoyment . Just my opinion and feedback .

I think it's gotten out of control. Count me as someone who will never support selling the naming rights to the stadium.

This brought back horrible flashbacks to yesterday's catastrophic National Anthem.

Even this wouldn't be as bad as whatever the hell that was last night.

Yes indeed, it has . I don’t support naming rights either . Unfortunately we as fans , have no say on the matter .

It’s the commercialization of sports and it’s unavoidable. Getting your panties in a bunch about a sign at the stadium is just a waste of time at this point. I’d rather it not happen but that’s just capitalism - there’s never enough money no matter how much you have, that’s the American way!

As evidenced by the HR Derby last night, which not only had commercials between every two hitters, but also commercials in the middle of each round, during the ‘timeout’ period. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rules allowed for a timeout just for the sole purpose of selling more ad time. Lame, but it’s not going to get any better, ever. In fact it’s likely to get far worse, so we have two options - learn to deal with/ignore it, or find a new pastime. 
 

This is the way.

As far as Rubenstein goes, I don’t fault him for taking advantage of additional revenue streams - again, capitalism almost requires it. You can’t be the only team (not to say the Os literally are) that isn’t taking advantage. But if payroll doesn’t increase relatively significantly in the next couple of years, then he’ll be no better than Angelo’s in reality. I think it will increase, but no one can be sure it will, until we see some contracts with a real financial commitment to them. And if we don’t see that, then eventually I’ll stop watching. I have no interest in developing the game’s stars of tomorrow, for other fan bases to get to cheer on. They need to keep some of these guys.

I’m with you. I really hope we at least negotiated a fair deal that provides an abundance of ad revenue because the logos and branding is very prominent at this point. It’s not just a small patch. 
 

Rubenstein still isn’t in the spotlight for me yet because I would also just be having a good time and making fans if I acquired a professional sports team. I don’t really care about increased spending at the deadline as much as I care about the quality of players we get (so Elias is on the hot seat more than Rubenstein in my mind). 
 

But at the end of the day, I really don’t care about all the gimmicks (funny commercials, hat giveaways, Mr. Splash guest appearances, etc). If we don’t eventually see payroll expand, long-term agreements/extensions happen, and perennial commitment toward winning then fan sentiment is going to sour quickly.

Speaking of Mr Rubinstein  , his trade deadline is coming in two weeks .  We then can see what moves Orioles made . If nothing happens and Elias makes a speech of excuses  ?

Then in five months, the official winter meetings commence, no free agents signings  made ?  Elias holds another press conference filled with excuses ? 
 

Then maybe we could conclude that Rubenstein is the more wealthier and friendlier John Angelos
