Lots of guys are fine. The Os need to upgrade. You can afford to get rid of “fine” for much better/higher upside. -

I don't think Norby existing in the farm system would have impacted Eloy. -

The 2014 Orioles lineup had two starters under age 28 (Manny and Schoop). The 2024 Orioles have five (Adley, Gunnar, Westburg, Cowser, Mountcastle). We also have a much stronger pipeline including four top 100 prospects (Holliday, Kjerstad, Mayo, Basallo). Would be fun to go back in time and compare the teams in Trade Simulator value but I would think the 2024 organization would absolutely blow away 2014. I agree we should not take the situation for granted, of course. -
This is great and all, but does it mean we will see an entire organizational hitting philosophy change? Because I am continually reminded by O's "X" and podcasters that swinging for the fences is analytically more effective in the playoffs. -
A deadline trade that does not impact the season in any way is a bad trade for a "buyer". That said, it is impossible to say it did not impact the season when. Had the trade not been made at all, Norby would have been available when we had injuries, or for the 100 plate appearances we gave Eloy The Clown. -

My expectations have tempered considerably. I have gone from thinking the window was just opening for this team in 2024 and we would see multiple deep runs in the playoffs, even a couple World Series berths. Then, the second half of 2024 happened. I was reminded that players get injured, not all players can perform under pressure, other teams have good young players, too, young players can sometimes take a long time to develop into reliable big-leaguers (if they ever do), etc. In other words - I was served a dose of reality. Then, a second playoff series without winning a game. Now, I am just hoping that we can win a playoff series that's my new high bar.
