Akin has one left, August didn’t count was not down for 10 days. Another poster pointed that out to me. I thought he was out of options too

Ok but that’s not how anyone would define “we paid a premium for him”.

That said, if they traded for a rental like say Carlos Estevez, they would have paid the same or more.

Soto and Dominguez have the possibility of being dominant--you pay for that. Saurez was likely an aberration--you don't overpay for that.

Well in the bs context in which you are saying, no they didn’t pay a premium. They would have had to pay more for most, if not every, rental reliever dealt this deadline.

I disagree. I think Seth Johnson is a guy coming off TJ surgery who could have had the chance to compete for major league innings in ‘25 and Chase, a 21 year old starter who was promptly promoted to AA where he held his own (16K/9) was a hefty price to pay for a career 1.4 WHIP, 5 BB/9 reliever. And the price would have been nowhere close to that had that pitcher been a rental. He probably wouldn’t have cost even one of those pieces. Probably could have had him for Stowers alone if he was a pending FA.

Stowers is worth more than either of those guys.

Rental relievers, off the top of my head, fetched more than Soto did.

The Os didn’t pay any kind of a premium for him. Johnson was an old prospect who has had injury issues and barely pitched above A ball. Chace maybe has a chance but there are tons of international arms like him throughout the system.  It’s no biggie to lose him.

This was a nothing package in the scheme of things.

He doesn’t have talent issues…he is a flawed older prospect though. 
 

He has less question marks than either of those guys do and has experienced some success at the Ml level.

Which makes him a total no brainer keep. Having that flexibility is a huge bonus.

Taking this back to my original question.

We essentially have 10 members of the staff set. You may or may not want them all but the Os will.

So, do you want Suarez to be on the remaining 2 starters or your other reliever?
