He will cost more than Witt..for many reasons.

Yes, I think Boras would require at least a 10% premium over the Witt deal (which only buys out three FA year) but possibly more.

That would look like:

- Signing bonus: $8M

- 2025: $3M

- 2026: $8M

- 2027: $15M

- 2028: $21M

- 2029: $33M

- 2030: $38.5M

- 2031: $38.5M - PLAYER OPT OUT AFTER SEASON

- 2032: $38.75M - PLAYER OPT OUT AFTER SEASON

- 2033: $38.75M - PLAYER OPT OUT AFTER SEASON

- 2034: $38.75M - PLAYER OPT OUT AFTER SEASON

- 2035: $38.75M

after 2035, Orioles can exercise team option to retain Gunnar for three additional years when $100M guaranteed

- 2036: $37M

- 2037: $31.5M

- 2038: $31.5M

Full no trade clause

Boras may not even go for this as he really doesn’t like pre-arb extensions.

I don’t believe Boras would entertain a straight up long term deal without opt-outs but if he did it would need to be in the neighborhood of a $400M guarantee.

Just can’t see a scenario where Gunnar turns down a deal like this…Gunnar isn’t giving up much, if any, money there and he has security.

Its not a good deal for the team but it’s one I think you should give him anyway.

I agree

Now, if the O's could just find a reliable masher to put 4th in the lineup with Gunnar hitting 3rd.

Take out a couple of the opt outs and I think it’s a good deal for the O’s. He was never gonna come cheap but he’s 23 and a superstar. If you’re not gonna keep him what are we even doing?

You aren’t getting him without the opt outs.  It’s the Witt deal. That’s how he signs.

You need the first one.  The ones after don't really do much.  If he's going to opt out it will be with the initial option.

That’s not even remotely accurate. He could have a bad year. Or he could suffer a big injury.

The opt outs protect him against those possibilities.
