The Doubles Machine

Whats sad is we shouldn't even be able to make these jokes. He's arguably our best, most consistent and experienced hitter in our lineup. Yet he catches flak

He's obviously playing above his head. We should obviously trade him now. :wedge:

Don't forget to add..."While his value is at its peak!"

#47 to lead off the game today. He started the year 9th on the Orioles all-time list, and he's currently at 6th with 309. Late this year or early next year he should supplant Brady Anderson(who he is also chasing for the franchise steals record) for 5th all-time. After that, it's four Hall of Famers: Sisler, Eddie, Brooks, and Cal.

Congrats to Brob! He and Stan Musial are the only living players to record three 50 double seasons! Awesome company.

That selfish jerk. He only got it because he purposely lolligags all his triples into doubles so he could get the record.:002_stongue:

Just kidding. Congrats to Brian. He may be a bit of an enigma at times but he's been a good Oriole during a long, dark time.

If he did it another 3 times, would that get him into Cooperstown?

Not saying he will or won't, just wondering if it would count for much if he did...

I don't think it would. Doubles aren't a stat that gets much publicity, nor are they a great measure of a players worth.

Roberts would need Biggio-esque longevity to make it into Cooperstown. While that's obviously a long shot, he can still write his name all over the record books! I hope he makes me update this thread a lot more before the season is out :D

If Roberts were to hit 50 2B's the next 3 years, that would give him 50 or more 5 years in a row. You would have to assume that his other offensive numbers would be comparable. That just might bring him some consideration.:scratchchinhmm:
