Reynolds has the most power on the team and the third highest OBP. Why is he not batting 4th?
Because he strikes out 200 times a year and has a .220 BA. He makes too many outs to bat 4th. He is much better hitting 5th or 6t. Wieters would be a better choice.,

Gusy will use WAR to show that Reynolds is replacement level as a player but he's done more to turn games around and make a difference this year than any other player on the team, by far. I know his defense hurts his value but even then, I think he's probably been the biggest difference maker on the team all season long.
Well he has the most HR's, the most BB's, and the most RBI's, so you could be on to something here. If Reynolds could take 10 of his K's, and turn them into walks, and say another 15-20 K's and turn them into singles, he'd be something. I'd even let him bat 4th.:laughlol:

Reynolds OBP - .322

They make outs at a nearly identical rate. And Reynolds brings a slugging % more than 50 points higher.

Really? Those numbers are quite close and the only reason Reynolds has made more outs is because he's had more plate appearances. Their ability to avoid making outs is the same. Vlad simply posts a high batting average with very few walks while Reynolds posts a low batting average with a lot of walks. If making outs is the criterion by which we judge worthiness of batting 4th, there's no substantive difference between the two.

Especially since Reynolds' slugging percentage is 53 points higher. So he's less likely to make contact, but more likely to go for extra bases. And he's less likely to hit into a double play.

Reynolds has made more outs and how productive were those 183 K's in comparisons to the outs Vlad made. Vlad has GIDP 10 more times than Reynolds, but tonight is a perfect example of why Vlad bats 4. With runners in scoring position the odds were much better that Vlad would get a hit and Reynolds would get a K.
