It's taking so long because Angelos had to get involved to seal up the follow up 3 year deal for Prince that begins when the Nats contract ends when he's 35 years old.

Angelos sees how serious the Nats are and since he hadnt heard of Fielder until tonight, he wants to get a head start on signing him when he's age appropriate for the O's.

Call me crazy, but if the Nats get Fielder I actually kind of like their team. The top 3 in this rotation is a bit underrated. I think Strasburg comes back healthy and dominant. Gio will most likely be the #2 on this team and I think he'll do well in the NL East. Jordan Zimmerman as your #3? I'll take that if he doesn't take five steps back. Add in a lineup that includes Prince, Zimmerman, Werth (he'll play better) and you have yourself a playoff contender. Would suck for the Orioles, even though we don't want to give him 8 years.

Curious to see if Morse can perform as well. And rumors are that Harper can make the team out of ST.

They're infinitely more interesting than our pathetic team thats for sure.

They could definitely make some noise in the NL East this season. I would definitely expect them to be in a position to make a run for the playoffs this season.

It sucks giving him 8, but if they land him they are showing everyone that winning comes first. They targeted Werth last year knowing he wasn't the final piece. But that didn't stop them.

This year they go after Prince.

They understand you don't need some perfect storm year before you can add those "final pieces." O's fans have been sold this bs routine that all the stars have to align perfectly before we can add legit players to get better. It seems getting incrementally better with legit talent through the free agent market is just blasphemy to the O's. It's why Johnny Damon will be an Oriole before too long. He's old and cheap. Because the stars didnt align perfectly for the O's to sign premium talent.

But for the very minority owner of MASN their tv rights allows them to sign real ball players. But the O's are just poverty stricken.

We'll find that out shortly again when the Marlins, Cubs or whoever else signs Cespedes shortly after the Fielder ordeal ends. And then we'll start it all over again next year. And the year after.

Hm, this report has to be false by this point. I guess they may have been close to a deal and possibly even getting closer still, but no one else confirming, nine hours later.

Sounds like a Boras-like tactic to signal to other teams that time is waning. I don't doubt that the Nats have made a serious offer, but Boras will make sure everyone has their opportunity to make one last, best offer. I just hope that doesn't give anyone here hope that the O's might jump in. Hopefully this can all be over soon.

    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
    • What's up with Brandon Young? Out of nowhere (#30 prospect above... undrafted?) he goes 3 IP with 0 hits or walks, and 7 Ks, throwing an otherworldly 26 of 31 pitches for strikes, in Bowie's game today.
