Hmm... I'd actually be okay with that, though I don't think Flaherty is ready to start in the majors yet offensively. I guess he has to step up though, because the defense is just killing us. That would make Tolleson the LF of choice for the next two weeks though. Not an ideal lineup.

From what I've seen, Flaherty projects much better at 2B than 3B, defensively.

Here are Headley's career home/away splits. This is the guy I want.

Acquiring Wright would be idiotic. Paying $15 million for one guy is crazy enough, but who would have to go back to New York? The suggestions of a B-level prospect won't be anywhere near acceptable to the Mets, and the Mets' requests for top-tier prospects won't work for the Birds, who need upgrades at more positions before they mess around with a big-bucks player who has battled injuries and declining production.

Plus, he is under team control through 2014 and could be a long-term answer for third.

So are you blaming the stadium for the drastic difference alone? Is it possible the guy chokes in front of his home crowd. As I recall we have somebody on our team that has had most of their success on the road....Sorry I'm not sure who.

You're not paying him $15M. You're paying the prorated amount for 3 months. Then his option voids, you offer arb that he turns down, and you get some picks. You offer a couple B prospects for a rental and getting the Mets off the hook for the rest of this year and 2013.

The Padres were apparently asking for "the moon" this winter when there was a lot of interest in him. They may be a little more motivated this summer, but it's still going to cost us. Their 1st round pick from 2008 is off to a great start at AAA, so Headley may be easier to move come July. If you could get a window to agree on an extension before completing the deal I'd up the ante on your offer (which is a good one). I think he'd be a breakout hitter at Camden Yards (and great fielder).
