My Honest Opinion Is That This Team Is In Trouble

The starters were good last year. Gonzo came out of nowhere, Chen looked good, Tillman came back, Saunders overachieved and Hammel had one of his best seasons ever. The bullpen was abnormally amazing.

While this was great for 2012, I think the front office may have become complacent, and Bundy and Gausman "waiting in the wings" further discouraged them from bringing in more pitching. Now with Bundy out, Gausman needing work, and the rest back to reality, the front office is caught with it's pants down.

The defense is there. The offense is close. The pitching is not there.

Speaking of which...our whipping boy Bazooka Joe has his ERA down to 4.5 now after a great June and great start to July. Sure would prefer him over Corey I mean Scott Feldman.

Exactly, except I would not say the front office was complacent. Pete surely gave DD a budget, and judging by the results of the offseason, I would say he may have given him a couple extra million to spend.

Either way, right now this team has ZERO chance of making the playoffs. We just lost two series to AAA lineups and routinely get beat by poor to mediocre hitters and pitchers. Sorry, you just can't consistently lose like that.

Maybe one of the most frustrating things in all of sports is watching a baseball team that is struggling on offense, and boy is this team tough to follow right now. I think they'll be OK, but they need to try to get a few wins before the break so they don't fall too far back. They've played their best ball under Buck in August and September but they need to make sure they stay in striking distance.

Get the win tomorrow. The pitching match-up is big time in our favor. The Darvish game could go either way but hopefully we can finish strong against the Jays.

Hopefully the Twins and Stros can at least take one game from Tampa...

2-5 this month already and staring 2-7, possibly 2-10 before the All-Star Break with the ALL the things that are we are doing poorly at once. Before it was just the inconsistent starting pitching, but now the bullpen is faltering and the offense is not producing like it has been.

I really didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I was worried about this team when just couldn't get on a sustained winning streak. Sure, we was winning series', but we just couldn't go on a tear.

I know what you mean, I really do. The positive way to look at that is to say that we are due for a good 6-game or more win streak. Pretty much every team has one at some point every season.

The defense is still really good! :D

I think Britton and Gausman should be sent down. I'd like to see them acquire Francisco Rodriguez if the price isn't too high, or John Axford, for that matter. I wish Adam Jones wasn't going to the ASG. Not only does he not deserve it, but I think he might need some time off.

    • I always thought that if you weren't around 10:1 you weren't trying hard enough.
    • Adley was a nearly finished product when picked, if not for tradition and service time stuff he could have been in the majors shortly after he left college. Gunnar needed 1000+ minor league plate appearances as a high school pick. Ask this same question about the 1990-2017 Orioles with their development system. They certainly could have found a way to screw up Gunnar, would have been harder with Adley.
    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.

    • Was reading Wiggins write up on ESPN. He appears to be more of a home run threat than Koolaid. He had a pick 6 each of the last 2 years.
    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
