First someone has to want Mora in return.

Well, unless things have changed(certainly possible), Belkast said the Phillies had interest and to my knowledge, they haven't corrected third base.

So, hopefully we are willing to eat enough contract or be ok with little return and move MelMo.

Maybe the mariners will be taking back Payton, seems like they could use some extra help in the OF with Jones leaving.

Waiting in the wings for the Seattle Mariners is 23-year-old outfielder Wladimir Balentien, the 2007 Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year who nearly matched teammate Adam Jones' numbers last season at Triple A Tacoma:

Jones 75 R, 25 HR, 84 RBI, 8 SB, .314 BA, .382 OBP, .967 OPS

Balentien 77 R, 24 HR, 84 RBI, 15 SB, .291 BA, .362 OBP, .871 OPS

Well they are both moving at a snails pace.

Can someone please give me a good explanation on why the Inidans match up so well? Im looking over their roster and I just dont see it. Can the stat gurus here enlighten me on why the Indians would make sense?

I think it starts and ends with Miller. They have a top notch first piece and it's probably not to hard to find a coulpe other decent players to throw in.

Just my opinion

While having Roberts could/would be a positive influence for some of the youngsters I don't think holding on to him is wise. He'll be 32 when his contract expires and it wouldn't make much sense to extend him at what he'll be able to get so we might as well maximize what we get in return. That means trading him sooner rather than later.

Believe me, I want Brob traded now, it would be the smartest thing to do, for the reasons you pointed out.

I just think Brob would want to stick around and be apart of a young team with a legit shot at the playoffs.

Can't see the Phillies having interest in Mora, nor should they. They've got Greg Dobbs for 3B, who is a much better player than Mora (or at least should be).

True, but not a lot of depth after that. If Wlad bombs, and they are looking to contend this year a veteran like Payton wouldn't be the worst back up plan. I would definitely give Wlad a shot first though.

There is always a price for everything, it is just a matter of finding out what that price is. Heck, I could drop my car in the reservoir, drag it out, place it as is on my driveway, and put it up for sale. Eventually someone would buy it. The price is just going to be really low

Unfortunately, the return for Mora will probably be a lot less than the O's want, or they will have to eat a significant portion of his salary.

Bedard + Penn for Jones, Clement, Triunfel, Tillman. ??

Sounds reasonable to me. Penn is still very young, stock has fallen here, might benefit from change of scenery.

As great as it would be to land those four prospects from Seattle, I would vomit in my mouth if Penn was a throw-in. It would be ridiculously stupid of the O's to trade Penn right now. His trade value is low. He fits in with the team's plan of stockpiling good young pitching talent. His stats in the minors indicate to me that he's a better bet to be a good SP in the league than almost any of the other young pitching prospects in the organization. Penn should not be a throw-in at this point in time. Just because he has had injury issues and a supposed 'attitude' problem does NOT mean that the team is free to discard him in any future rebuilding plans.

I would prefer an Indians deal to a Cubs deal.

Miller as the better potential as opposed to Gallagher, and we already have 3-5 type starters.

Gutierrez could play LF and you could put Scott at DH

Barfield is still a great talent and the Indians would have no problem giving him up.

I think we should try and deal for Cedeno and Barfield. Maybe Payton and someone else for Cedeno. It would also depend on if we get Truinfel back, because then we wouldnt need Cedeno.

I would like to Cedeno and Barfield up the middle.

Of course, alot of things need to happen first, and we dont even know anything about the Indians at this point.

    • Thank you. I knew there was something bogus about that post. I saw Cal play SS. And Gunnar is no Cal at SS. Not even close. And this is coming from a big fan of Gunnar. I would like to see him play a traditional power position. Call me old fashioned. He’s hurting the team at SS.
    • Interesting.  We live in a data obsessed world now but it's not the answer to everything.  There should be a mix.
    • Tobias Myers for the brewers tonight: 6 innings 4H -1ER 1BB 11 Ks. not bad at all!
    • I doubt solid MLB pitchers can be acquired just by trading position players the vast majority of the time.  Look at how we acquired Bradish and Povich -- by trading solid (at the time anyway) MLB level pitchers.  In those trades we were on the other end, but we forced teams to trade good young pitchers for Bundy and Lopez respectively.  Now we did acquire McDermott and Seth Johnson by trading Trey Mancini.  So it does happen that pitching can sometimes be acquired trading only a position player, but Mancini had had a strong major league career to that point.  My point is I don't think you can expect to acquire pitching only by trading position players -- but if you can it may need to be a strong veteran that is not easy to part with. Perhaps we could acquire Tarik Skubal for just Jackson Holliday -- or Holliday plus one or two other strong position prospects.  But that would be a whole other level of a blockbuster trade. Also, I'm not sure how we can say the system is bereft of homegrown minor league pitching talent and then complain that we traded Baumeister and Chace -- two homegrown minor league pitchers that everyone here seems to agree are talented.  We can criticize the trade, but clearly there was and probably still are some desirable arms in the system that we'd rather not trade.  No, none of the ones Elias drafted have made it to the bigs yet, but maybe those two would have been among the first.
    • Seth Johnson on the Phillies' "philosophy": Orioles are data driven, Phillies are more "old school". I don't get much out of this but it's a data point. https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/seth-johnson-mlb-debut-phillies-orioles-trade/613582/ “I think the big thing is that Baltimore is very data-based,” he said. “Here’s a nice blend of the numbers and baseball strategy. Kind of old school. And I’ve been really enjoying it so far. For me, it’s kind of simplified everything. Concentrating on basic concepts like moving the fastball around. Not worrying about pitch shapes all the time. Just going out here and trying to pitch.”
    • If we have room, why wouldn't we add Pham and Van Loon just to have available depth in AAA (whether or not they are at risk of being taken)?
    • I think Young will be added, and that is it. I like Pham, but no AAA experience makes him unlikely to be taken. Whatever open spots should be used to upgrade the bullpen and other pitching depth. It is well documented here that we don’t have much beyond raw guys like Strowd and Heid. we lack flexibility and options. This has to change.
