With all of the reports and allegations coming out, do you all think that the power numbers in baseball will decrease??? People always make the argument that the performance enhancing drugs were being used by both the pitchers and hitters..either way, what do you all think?

I personally think they will decrease...

I don't think you'll see much of anything outside of normal year-to-year variations. Testing started prior to last year. Nothing much has changed this year.

In the long run we'll see there were many causes for the offensive/power spike in the 1990s that continues to today. PEDs were just one probably small-ish part. Bat design, park design, strike zone size, and hitter approach are probably each at least as important as drugs.

If not more.

Classic moment in the last Al wildcard playoffs. Yanks-Indians, Game 4, Giambi pinch hits with one out in the bottom of the 8th, yanks trailing 6-3.

The Jake is filled with a raucaus chant of "Steroids, Steroids, Steroids"

Oops, Rafeal Betancourt is pitching for the Tribe.

    • Well, if you look back on prior posts that I have made to Roy, I specifically said in ONE prior post that he makes a lot of emo posts that are almost trolling in nature because of their extreme back and forth.   He can go from the Orioles are the best team ever to getting swept by the Yankees and they have no shot to win anything.   He has done this 100000000 times.   Which is fine.  I like Roy and he is very fervent and emotional about the Os.  My point was if it was anyone else making those same posts?  I have a feeling the reaction would not be so......muted. For example I made a thread last year in July or August that the Os would not win the WS, probably would not win a playoff series, and had a slight chance of missing the playoffs totally.  Very slight is what I said.  I also said that 'next year'.....as in the year we are in now, with the growth of the younger players like Cowser and Gunnar and hopefully with the addition of an ace (which we got with Burnes) the Os had a serious chance to win it all.  For making those bold predictions?  Which were all very logical?  I got crucified and almost banned on here.  Literally for that.  That specific thread.  Which in no way was anti Oriole. So you make the call.
    • I think they meant to make the one they already use available to fans so we can abuse them on social media.
    • Is the grading system available to us actually accurate?  I don’t really know though I usually assume it is.
    • Kill the Union and get rid of under performing umps.

    • Just for the sake of this thread's topic, suppose Robo Ump is completely off the table, for whatever reason. How do you improve the balls/strikes calling in MLB? Have MLB use the grading system available to us online to evaluate umps when they are behind the plate. Pay umpires a per game bonus when they are behind the plate. Use the grading system to set thresholds on correct called balls/strikes that umpires have to achieve. If they fall below a certain level, they get penalized First offense is a warning Second offense they get skipped on the next rotation, missing out on the per game bonus Third offense they miss out on home plate for a month Just spitballing. How could they improve strike calling if the Robo Ump is a no go?
