The fact he struggles to bat over .200 and lost a lot of his power last year? I want to avoid him, while Urrutia has a good chance of being a .280, 15 homer kinda guy if he gets normal at bats.

IIRC, he's not even guaranteed a starting role for the Mets. Can't say that the idea of getting him for the everyday DH role sits well with me.

This sounds similar to Chris Davis's situation in Texas.

No. Not in my opinion. Was Yu Darvish a prospect just because he was rookie eligible? Is Tanaka a prospect? The fact remains that I haven't seen any longterm scouting reports that project him as more than a 4th OF on a 1st division team. I'd love for him to be better than that, but I don't think that means he necessarily has more upside than that.

Ike's "career": 7 points higher OBA than Cruz, 1 point higher than Kendrys. That's not even worth saying that one OBA is higher than another. Oh, and considering Morales and Cruz are every day starting players who produce, unlike Davis, it does a disservice to compare Ike to Morales and Cruz who have proven year in and year out that they can hit. In your evaluation Reimold is as good a hitter as Cruz. You are not seeing the forest for the trees. Walks are not as good as hits. When OBA is roughly equal, walks are no panacea.

I don't know where to check but my guess would be no. I know he's been sent up and down from the minors multiple times in his career to get straightened out. I'd be surprised if he had any options left.

Not helping. Sorry. You brought up OBP, I did not. Obviously Cruz and Morales are more accomplished players, that is why they will be paid 3-4 times as much as Davis.

The question (in comparing a trade for Davis with the signing of Cruz or Morales) is whether the production you will get is 3/4 times what you would get from (for example) a platoon of Davis and Delmon Young.

Well, Fangraphs Oliver projections has...

Urrutia at 1.4 WAR, with .287/.332/.422 along with 14 homers and 72 rbi.

Davis at 1.1 WAR, with .216/.327/.398 with 22 homers and 72 rbi

By these numbers, Urrutia is the better guy for us, and we don't have to spend 3.5 mil or give up an asset for him.
