So if the O's make the playoffs ( yes still saying if and I will until its offical) and then lets say they sweep the ALDS and the ALCS by some miracle. Would that mean Davis couldn't play in he world series as well.

Even if he could, would he? Putting a guy who's been sitting for 25 games on your World Series roster without any kind of rehab assignment doesn't sound like a great idea to me.

According to what Gary Thorne just said, the Orioles are 14-4 when Davis is out of the lineup this year.

They play .833 ball when Paredes gets in the game (5-1). Maybe he's magic! World Series here we come.

(Preferred interpretation of this post: If a split seems to not make any sense nor have any predictive value, that's probably the case. Especially if it's 18 games.)

Yep, he'll have to miss the first 8 games of the postseason (assuming we don't have some massive fluke at the end of the season where we have a game postponed and not made up). He'll be able to play in the post season when the suspension is up.

Question is, IF the O's are playing well and advancing will they even add him to the playoff roster at that point?

So who's on board with Christian walker starting at first with flaherty at third and Pearce in the outfield over Kelly Johnson?

Ummmm no.

I would rather put Markakis or Pearce at first. Kelly Johnson or Flaherty at 3rd and an OF with Pearce/Markakis/Jones and De Aza....

Christian Walker has struggled at AAA somewhat, would rather go with guys who have MLB experience than use up an option for a guy who is not the solution yet IMO

Meant 3 of Pearce, Jones, Markakis, De Aza in the OF depending on what guys are at 1st and 3rd....Nick can play first and prob do it pretty well he has played there before. Now would be a good time to get some work in before the playoffs IMO

Starting Ryan Flaherty, Kelly Johnson, and/or Jimmy Paredes does?

Yeah, that does sound slightly better than starting a guy who is batting .196, has seen no in-game action for almost a month, and is coming off a drug suspension. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Hell if Steven Drew could be magic last year for Boston who knows lol....its all about being hot at the right time with the bat

What concerns me is the possibility of undue pressure on the MLB doctors to find exemptions unwarranted. I imagine that if a MLB doctor came back and said that 100% of the prior exemptions reviewed were warranted (even if this was medically correct), said doctor would be perceived as not having done their job, as the assumption is that there are unwarranted exemptions. I wonder if the MLB doctors are available to the players. It would certainly make things easier if a player could go directly to one of them instead of finding themselves in a situation where Doctor A says you need this and MLB doctor says no you don't.

I hear ya, and it's a very interesting question. It seems to me that they hand out so many of these exemptions that, presumably, some players get them that shouldn't. This leads me to believe that if a player is truly in need of Adderall for ADHD (or whatever), said player would get that exemption.

Don't they handle these exemption via a panel of doctors? Team doctor, player doctor, independent doctor? I have no idea. I could be totally making that up.

The dude was hitting .196 playing everyday, missing 25 games probably wouldn't make much difference. They wouldn't leave him off the roster had he hit that during the postseason leading up to it.

I'd put him on, for nothing else, his defense.

Not to mention the fact that while he cant work out with the team I am sure CD could hire a couple of minor leaguers or college pitchers to throw to him and work out independently.

Not the same I know but its not like he is banned from picking up a bat or glove on his own time

What I don't get is shouldn't the team have a compliance specialist who is on top of this stuff. Someone who at the beginning of the year goes to each player and says, "I see you had a TUE last year for X, we need you to see a doctor so we can prepare the paperwork for that exemption again."

Someone who has a lot of independence so players are comfortable going to them and saying, "hey I was thinking of taking this, how can I do that legally."

Im surprised they didn't bring Christian Walker up for just a look.Really surprised.

Why waste the option Roy?

The kid was not tearing up AAA. You have MLB ready options on the roster even if they are not the best players. I am not surprised at all. If the O's do not think he is ready from a scouting perspective this does not change that at all.

Now we know why Davis took his twitter page down last night.
I guess none of his bible passages would of explained it away.

Davis has my support. Who here hasn't made any mistakes?

That's what I thought. As far as Davis quoting scripture, pretty cool if you ask me. That's more powerful than 53 home runs bro.

    • Yes my mistake I thought those were eligible. They may be eligible after winter meetings. Manfred seems to like the idea of making more picks available for trade.
    • I always compare where we are in attendance to payroll. As it stands our attendance will be 19th in the league and payroll 22nd. The Twins are at 19th with 130 million dollar payroll which is 22 million higher than ours. I expect the Nats and Tigers to spend a little this offseason so that 130 million mark for 19th place may move closer to 140. Still gives this team 50-60 million to spend on either resigning guys or free agents.
    • Well, the changes to the flex plans this year led both me ($1200 plan) and my friend ($2500 plan) to not renew for next year. The decision to more severely limit playoff presale access and dramatically reduce the discount on food and drinks at the park just didn’t make it worth it to tie up that much money in advance. So, we’ll likely go to far fewer games next year. Given the press reports and online reaction, I have to think we weren’t alone in our decision making.
    • Rivera and Soto are hitting.   Holliday and Mayo are not.
    • Holliday could fill the role of pinch runner that Mateo would fill.
    • Yeah. I don’t get that either. SEA would win head to head tie with HOU and push HOU into WC race but it’s irrelevant if the loses don’t match.
    • Regardless of how down I've been about their recent play, there's always been some hope. Getting some guys back in time for the post season will definitely help.    The way this team has been built requires a group effort. I mean,  Gunnar is a huge star, but the lineup when healthy can be competitive top to bottom. I'm not knocking NY here, but if you can eliminate Judge(almost impossible), you stand a chance vs them. I'm not implying that they will go on a deep run because we've seen how bad it can be, but simply saying that getting healthy and having a shot is the best we as fans could have hoped for with the way this season has gone.
