Well talk about the game.

LOL. Gladly.

I think Maryland wins by double digits.

As I mentioned in another thread, we have played really poorly on the road this year, minus the last 4 minutes at Clemson.

Diane (who is key to our success down the road this season) doesn't shoot well at all outside of the JPJ, and we need him to be that third guy behind Singletary and Reynolds.

I looke for Gist to have a big night and the Terps to win in an up and down type game, something like 86-73.

Of course, what I'm hoping for is and entirely different situation.

I am hoping that our guard play is better this game. Should be an energized crowd, the loudest of the season so far.

I am hoping Gist can keep up his level of play, I agree with you about him having a big night, and he needs to do so in order for the terms to win.

I don't think they will win by double digits, however.

IF they win, I see it something like 86-81 area.

It sounded like Gary was thinking of slowing the pace down tonight when they were interviewing him on comcast sportsnet. I would think that is a bad move, we need to run and gun out there and if we slow it down to a half court game, we will make mistakes.

This game isn't on ESPN, so it's not part of their "rivalry week" anyway, not that it really matters. They chose 5 or 6 good rivalries and are showcasing those games this week. They do Rivalry Week every year the week of the first Carolina-Duke game. Maryland's natural rival always was UVA, if you guys remember the old ACC (three years ago), the teams played the same schedule each half, and always closed with their natural rival. UNC/Duke, NCSU/WFU, GT/Clem, and MD/UVA. It was like that for years until Florida State came in and they usually ended a few days before everyone else. Of course now teams don't even play each other two times a year in some cases. Ridiculous.

The Maryland/Duke thing has been beaten to death by everyone (I'm just as guilty as anyone), but it changes for Maryland fans each generation, now it's Duke, in the 80's it was Carolina, who knows it may be Clemson in 10 years...It doesnt matter, Mackus is right, right now the fans get more excited for Duke, so Duke it is. Hopefully it won't be for long as the Heels get back to the dominance we had in the Dean Smith era and everyone hates us again...So there you have it, I'm jelaous! I want everyone to envy Carolina again and give everything to beat us, storm the court....etc.

Oh, Maryland wins big tonight and re establishes themselves as a player in the ACC against a very good Virginia team.

Must win tonight for the Terps?

As close to there is for Feb 6th, IMO.

Basically if we lose this game then we absolutely have to go at leas 1-2 against Duke and UNC. I'd much rather be in position to lose all 3 of those games and still be able to finish 8-8.

If they don't show up tonight with a big time effort, I'll be terribly disappointed. If they play really well and still lose, then I'll still have some hope, but if they flop tonight like they did in the 2nd half v FSU any realistic hopes I have of them making a tourney run will likely disappear (not all hope though, just the realistic kind).

Hmm, I don't know about that man. We thrive in a frenetic fast paced game where Singletary and Reynolds can run and work in the open court. Just look at the Duke game, they slowed down the pace and kept it close the whole way. Took a couple missed open looks and the heroics of SS to win the game.

I think your guys way to win is to control the ball, and pound it to Gist every time down. Let Hayes run the offense, and let Jones do nothing but run off screens. Jones coming around a screen for an open three is still really dangerous, you just don't want him doing anything else.

As a Cavalier fan, everytime the game goes up and down, I love our chances because of our incredible guards.

On a semi-unrelated note...

This game is on Comcast Sportsnet so it should be in HD right? I can't stand watching on that crappy Raycom Sports Network anymore!!

Are you sure? I thought it was on 20 here in DC, and I'm fine with that, since I like Dan Bonner. Except when he wears UVA colors on TV.

It's on Comcast. And also, Dan Bonner is announcing the GaTech/NCState game right now, so you don't have to worry about him showing his bias through his shirt/tie. (Which, even as a UVa fan, I find annoying. We all know you went there Dan, you don't have to make it even more uncomfortable by looking like you're going to be openly rooting for them as well)

It is on Comcast, but the Caps are on the HD channel. Ugh!!!!! Why can't any Maryland games ever be in HD?!

I mean, you'd think that this, of all game would be in HD because Comcast services the fans from the University of Maryland and University of Virginia regions so they'll potentially get twice the normal number of viewers as a regular Maryland game. Wouldn't they draw more viewers on the HD channel by putting the basketball game in HD rather than the Caps?

    • How many starts per week for Kjerstad and where?
    • People are really overanalyzing the promotion of a player that may be on the team for a week. Clearly sending Holliday down wasn't plan A, and neither is bringing up McKenna. If Kjerstad gets sent down when Hays comes back then we have a problem. My main takeaways from this are that Hays is coming back shortly and Kjerstad is going to get Holliday's opportunity in the lineup. Perhaps he runs with it.
    • Well 708 isn’t exactly that good either.
    • His real age will match his baseball age in June.   He could have a role next year assuming Hays doesn't come back.
    • High school players are also less likely to make the majors than college players. Picking Abrams or Witt would also increase the chances your 1:1 pick is a bust, or at least less than you hoped for. When I say Adley wasn't a "safe" pick, I meant that the Orioles didn't sacrifice much, if any, ceiling to raise the floor. I remember the vast majority of pundits saying that Adley was the most likely player in the draft to be an excellent baseball player. A few said they thought Witt or Abrams had a higher ceiling, but they also were less likely to reach it than Adley. And even they were like, "slightly higher ceiling, much lower floor, and C is more valuable than SS." Even if more all-star level players come out of high school, in that particular draft Adley was a special player who had a super high floor and a super high ceiling. The fact that high school players are more likely in general to be all-stars shouldn't blind one to the fact that there was an incredibly special college talent available at 1:1. Bottom line is the idea that the O's should have picked anyone other than Adley in that draft was a small minority opinion on draft day, and the fact that Witt and maybe Abrams ended up hitting their ceilings doesn't change the fact that Adley was the obvious choice with the information available at the time, and it's not like it didn't work out awesome for us. I would say Adley is definitely more likely to be a HOF than Abrams and probably Witt, too.
    • Yeah, but Westburg has become such a staple to the lineup and begun to establish himself offensively I thought they might do the Gunnar thing and say 3B is yours.  No more back and forth.
    • I'm rambling now, but the 1928 A's may have been one of the coolest teams ever to hang around. Not only did they have a bunch of these old IL Orioles, and an unbelievable stock of young talent. But Mack had brought in some old guys, I guess to provide leadership and mentoring and the like. So on this one team they had the younger HOFs: Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove. They had the Orioles in Boley, Bishop, Grove, Earnshaw. But on top of all that, they had 41-year-old Ty Cobb, 40-year-old Tris Speaker, 41-year-old Eddie Collins, 44-year-old Jack Quinn, and 35-year-old Bullet Joe Bush. Of course Cobb, Speaker, and Collins are inner-circle HOFers, among the best to ever play their position. Quinn was a grandfathered spitballer, probably worthy of a book or three, who won 96 games in his 40s and pitched his last MLB game at the age of 50. And Bush had a 17-year career where he won 196 games. The '28 A's won 98 games and only finished 2.5 games behind a Yanks team that was the freakin' '27 Yanks the year before. For '29 Mack say goodbye to Cobb, Speaker, made Collins a coach, plugged in the kids, and ran away with the league for three straight years. Until the Depression hit, Connie didn't have any other sources of income or wealth, and for the 2nd time had to sell off his stars to make payroll.
