"Three Under the Radar Moves"

We've wasted far too much tine with Reimold already. I don't see the upside to a Jim Johnson return. Hochevar is a failed starter and gas one solid season in relief. Question is who does he replace? Plus missed all last season with Tommy John. He likely will struggle in year one back as most do.

I think I'd pass on all three!

Reimold - No thanks, that ship has sailed. Hopefully lost at sea.

Jim Johnson - See above answer.

Hochever - We'd be paying him for his return year from TJ. He will most likely struggle if he ever returns to form.

These three moves would not improve the team, since they aren't better then anyone they would be replacing.

Wait. Run this by me again. These are the same Camden Depot people who are dreaming of yet "another option for getting rid of Ubaldo Jimenez." And they want O's management to bring back Jim Johnson???

I realize that Ubaldo is expensive and had mostly a horrible year. But I saw him, both in real life and on TV. He showed definite signs of improvement at the end of the season. I also saw Jim Johnson on TV, in Oakland, before the As released him outright. He was getting absolutely pounded by Orioles hitters. They were having batting practice at Johnson's expense. It was sad to see. Then I read where the Astros treated him in the same manner that the O's did. I don't think he fared much better once the Tigers picked him up.

I'd sign any of them to a MiL contract, other wise no thanks.

When it comes to long shot reclamation projects, Hippocrates had it right. "First, do no harm." In this case, that would mean "Don't:"

Tie up a spot on the 40 man roster we might need for someone more likely to help us this year.

Spend money we will need to sign someone more likely to help us this year or in the future.

Steal development opportunities from someone who has not yet had his chance.

Stop looking for better bets.

Rely on long shots paying off.

If Dan lives that version of the Hippocratic Oath, why should we care?

If it is a minor league deal, it wouldn't take a 40-man roster spot.

I don't have any interest in Hocheaver because odds are he won't be able to contribute much at all this season coming off of Tommy John. I'd sign Johnson to a minor league deal easily and wouldn't mind if they did the same with Reimold (though if it were one or the other, I'd rather roll the dice on Johnson). We are talking about low risk minor league deals. There is no real harm.

If Hochevar would accept the MiL version of what we gave Johann Santana in 2014, that would be OK. As for Reimold, would he be taking too many ABs from anyone we really need to see this spring, e.g., Alvarez, Urrutia, Lough...? I guess Dan would just cut him, if that became an issue?

    • I'll be surprised if it's not that trio with either Kremer or Gibson as the 4th starter if the Orioles need one during the playoffs. It's terrible Means was gone for nearly 1.5 years, but the plus side is his arm should be fresh.
    • If the Orioles can't get a good return and Norby doesn't win a job next spring, the odds may go up that he takes over in left in 2025 if the Orioles aren't going to pay both Hays and Mullins, or maybe neither.
    • 4 Ks and missed 6 bats. I missed the game tonight and it looks like he pitched well and he is certainly 3rd in the pecking order right now (which speaks to the staff more than anything) but I don’t have confidence in him vs top offenses if he can’t miss bats and strike guys out.
    • I think Kremer will be in the pen for the playoffs.   I think he can be a weapon out of the bullpen for us this year. Next year I imagine he will pitch in the rotation and continue to improve.  I see this guy pitching in MLB for a long time.  He has the drive and desire to be great.  He improves and adapts as he goes along.     I think they need to try and add and impact starter in the off-seasons and push competition.  I’d like to see two impact relief arms as well.     I’m not in the “the sky is falling” camp right now, but the last few weeks have shown the importance of high quality depth.  You can’t have too much talent.
    • I bought tickets from the Birdland members presale. My wife and I have a 13-game plan. When it said you could only buy one set of tickets per series, I assumed that meant one pair for the Wild Card Series, one for the ALDS, and one for the ALCS. But I'm seeing people online say that they bought tickets for two games in the ALDS and one for the ALCS. I didn't realize that I could distribute my three games any way I wanted. Now I'm annoyed that I wasted tickets on two series that might not happen at all.
    • The Orioles have one more loss at home than on the road. So I would say about the same. The Rays on the other hand are .663 at home (53-27) vs. .553 on the road (42-34). The Orioles have Bradish and GRod going against the Nationals, at home, after a day off. They should win those games. If they win tomorrow, too, the deed would be nearly done by Wed. Winning tomorrow is not essential, they would be still in good shape with a loss. But it would help to avoid going deep into the week to resolve this.
