How can you trade Davies for a rental' date=' and then send down Givens to make room for a Rule V?[/quote']
So Dan decided to make a run at the playoffs and now we're sending down a valuable bullpen arm for this guy who couldn't cut it in his first stint. Makes a ton of sense.

Yeah I don't get this.

I bet this costs us a game or two over the next month.

Either directly by having to put Garcia in the game or indirectly for not being able to go to Givens and having to overuse other guys in the bullpen.

You are greatly over exaggerating the importance of this move.

Or TJ being brought in as a "lefty specialist" despite allowing close to a 700 OPS to lefties.

You might be right about over exaggerating about this one move. But this obsession with roster flexibility is getting old and has hurt the team this season. They left Schoop on his rehab for at least a weak longer than they had to because they didn't want to decide on Young, Pearce, Snider, Nolan, etc... They've Yo-yo'd Gausman for the whole year when he was clearly going to be more effective than Norris. At some point you just have to let the best 25 play.

This. The diff between Givens and Garcia is neglible. Givens has looked great in a SSS. What if you cut Garcia and Givens goes off the rails. Then you've wasted all that time right at the finish line.

Flaherty was playing pretty well while Schoop was on rehab. And it was a pretty serious injury. No reason to rush him when his fill in was doing just fine.

Aside from the part where Schoop is better. He's better then Flaherty even when Flaherty is "playing pretty well". I am all for making sure a player is healthy but playing in the majors isn't more dangerous to his knees then playing in the minors. If anything it is less dangerous.

They can't bring Givens back up for 10 days unless there is an injury.

This just looks like a poor decision.

I think this has a lot to do with Tilman. He is set to start on Sunday but he may end up having him start and then in the 2nd or 3rd inning he can't go any more and they need a long man. TJ is staying up so that they can keep the long man if needed. Ubaldo has been shaky and Tilman has an ankle injury we need to keep a long man on the team.

If Tillman can't pitch then you put him on the DL. Skipping him once is acceptable but once you get to twice then you might as well back date a 15 day DL trip.

If it was MacFarland, a guy who is limited to mop up/long relief duty when we are already behind, maybe. The difference between Garcia and Givens could EASILY be a win or two over the next three plus weeks. Garcia is a guy who put up a 3.57 ERA between Low A and High A ball last season. It will not be pretty when he enters the game.

I think you are downplaying the importance.
