And the new slide rule has another victim' date=' Jose Bautista. Instead of going up 4-3 in the 9th, the call was reversed and gave the Rays an instant 3-2 win. Haha![/quote']
It was beautiful.

I'm still laughing at it! :2yay-thumb:

Somewhat ironically, if Bautista had not flagrantly reached out with his hand and grabbed the 2nd baseman's ankle, there is a decent chance that the batter would have beaten the throw, and the Blue Jays at least would have tied the game. It was a relatively slow-developing double play, and the play at first base subsequently would have been extremely close.

But because he did what he did (a flagrant grab of the 2nd baseman's ankle) and it was close, they has to call the double play.

In my rat's ass of an opinion, that was not a smart play at all by Bautista, particularly because he is aware of the rule chance.

Didn't these guys get the memo?

Yes.

As did Alex Rodriguez with PED's after the first time that he was caught.

That doesn't/didn't necessarily preclude them from continuing to break the rules.

This has nothing to do with the new slide rule. You couldn't interfere with a middle infielder by reaching over and attempting to turn his ankle last year and you couldn't do it 20 years ago. It has ALWAYS been interference, if rarely called.

Donaldson hurt?

This just happened moments ago, but there could be some bad news for the Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Donaldson left this afternoon’s game against the Rays with an apparent leg injury.

Donaldson hit a grounder and took a couple of steps out of the batter’s box before slowing down. He walked away from the play, limping slowly. He was replaced in the game by Darwin Barney.

Plays that look like that one in the past tend to be hamstrings, though we’ll obviously let you know what the actual diagnosis is once the Blue Jays provide word.
