Buck's statement on Kim and tonight's game

Reimold is going to get good consistent ABs in this White Sox series, so he'll be able to go out and make his case for more time.

For what it's worth, my observation is he looks leaner and way more explosive this year. Physically this might be the best he's been since his rookie year.

You're a proponent of "we should always defer to those in charge" viewpoint. Please understand that others may not be so absolutist.

Wrong. I say trading Arrieta was a horrible move and get slammed as anti oriole by multiple posters. Then I say the O's reputation is fine around baseball and get told I'm not allowed to have inconsistent views because I criticized DD on Arrieta. Now I say trust Buck on Kim and get called out for not questioning the Orioles. Can I please offer an opinion without people using that one opinion to label me? I call em as I see em. Sometimes I'm pro o's sometimes I say we made a mistake. Sometimes I'm wrong, but usually not:)

It is difficult to pigeonhole someone who bases one opinion solely on trusting management's judgment, while pointing out that that same management has made egregious mistakes in the recent past.

Kim has never played in the majors so we don't have a track record to go on. So, someone saying that Buck's opinion is wrong has absolutely no basis to go on. Buck has seen the guy every day for months now. Buck has a basis for his opinion. You want me to question Buck, fine. How about leaving Gallardo in the game at Texas and than following with TJ when the forecast called for 5 inches of rain the next day. I said at the time, before Gallardo got knocked out of the game that Buck was making a bonehead mistake. If it's difficult to pigeon hole me, that's a good thing. Maybe that shows I can think independently.

No, you got called out for saying "Nobody can question Buck, so the thread should be closed." What is that nonsense?

Couldn't you write that exact paragraph about every bench player in the history of baseball? Nolan Reimold is probably worse than Rickard and Trumbo, he may not be as good a hitter vs. RHP as Alvarez... why is he ever going to play? Ryan Flaherty isn't as good as Manny or Hardy or Schoop in pretty much any aspect of the game. Why has he been an Oriole for going on four years? Why has he ever gotten into a game? Why do we even have 25-man rosters?

Kim will play to give others rest. He will play when someone has a minor injury. He will play when there are favorable matchups. He will play when Buck gets visions from God or at least the baseball gods.

Which is exactly my point. Why are people so concerned with a bench player's playing time?

In Kim's case because of the perception that he was treated unfairly by Duquette and Showalter. Otherwise I don't think anybody would care particularly much. About as much as they care about Reimold's playing time probably.

But, people in OH care, and we get wrapped about the axle spending time debating things and over analyzing them, daily. :)

That was poorly worded. I believe no-one can question Bucks opinion on Kim because Buck has seen him every day for months and Kim has no track record to go on. Therefore those questioning Buck's use of Kim have no basis for their opinion.

While Buck certainly has more information about Kim than we do, it's not correct to say that we have "no basis" for our opinion. We can certainly form opinions based on what we've seen of Kim during the regular season, spring training, videos from Korea, scouting reports, etc. It's dismissive to say that we can't form our own opinions of him.

Not going to get you too far, criticizing our MODS.

Brady had glowing things to say about him, DD had glowing things to say about him, Daniel Kim had glowing things to say about him, his videos from Korea were pretty impressive to watch even though he wasn't playing

at that level during spring training (who is, anyway?), but Buck has bad things to say about him from day one. That is basis to question Buck right away even if Kim's steadily increasing performance isn't considered. So,

I would agree that we have more than enough basis to form an opinion on the matter.

Wait, so moderators opinions about the Orioles cannot be criticized or questioned? Come on. :laughlol:

    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
