Bautista: "I slid hard into 2B. I could have injured him, I chose not to..didn't appreciate being hit." #Bluejays #Jays

Yes, because Jose Bautusta, humanitarian.

Odor could've ended Bautista, he chose not to. He didn't appreciate a chicken **** slide.

That's the best punch I've seen in a baseball game.

I'm biased but Alan Mills decking Darryl Strawberryis still top of my list. I've only ever found the Yankee broadcast of that brawl online, but the Oriole broadcast (which I have on VHS somewhere) showed the punch from a clean angle and it was incredible. A full body lunge punch. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy, except perhaps Bautista.

I do have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand I don't like brawls, bean balls and dirty slides.

On the other hand there are four current MLB players that I want to see get clocked in the mouth, and Bautista is one of those four.

Would it be any better if it were Big Sloppy? I think I enjoy it being Bautista.

You could see this coming, from last year in the playoffs Bautista with the bat flip against the Rangers. This was last game between the two teams. Then you get Bush just out of jail throwing at him. Then Bautista was trying to take out Odor with late slide. Odor dropped down and went sidearm right at his head just missing him and firing the ball in right field. Then the fight.

Is this thread inappropriate? Probably so, but as a supervisor at work, I learned a long time ago that sometimes the best move you make is the one you didn't make at all. Oh, and I heard Buck say it the other day.

;)

I don't like bean balls and dirty slides, but I like brawls (at least the mostly pantomime ones in professional sports). Then again, I also like the occasional streaker on the field.

Oh, and I also like that Joey Bats got clocked in the mouth.

Brawls in baseball to me are like fights in the NHL; it's how the players police the sport when a player gets out of line. MLB brawls don't happen often, but when they do, there's a very good reason for it and this was no

different. I don't mind baseball brawls for those reasons plus it's entertaining, but it's not like they're fighting just for fun. Bautista kind of had it coming, but that was a dirty slide with intent.

    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
