I don't care what he does or doesn't take kindly to. I didn't take kindly to him being suspended for our 2014 playoff run either. If he's not playing well, at some point, he needs to sit. I think the plus side of getting him hot makes it worth it to play him but i'm not opposed to eventually sitting him or moving him down in the order if Pearce is red hot.

He is playing very well defensively and contributing both there and in getting on base despite being in a terrible slump. Not just from attitude standpoint that I meant wouldn't take kindly to sitting, but I don't think his slump resolves effectively without continuing to play every day. Chris is what he is, he will break out at some point. Fortunately, Buck does care what CD does and doesn't take kindly to.

Interesting way to look at Miley. A team could pinch hit a lefty but it forces them to use a bench player.

In late innings, no LOOGY will be used. It is DOD, Brach, Britton most all the time. So really the so called LOOGY situations would be fewer and only be in 5th and 6th innings, which could easily be met by leveraging Ondrusek there (or even Worley or Bundy).

Not sure I can even evaluate this move objectively. Like Koji, Pearce was one of my favorite Orioles of recent history. Wish we had just brought him back in the first place. Would much rather have had Pearce/Trumbo than Trumbo + the 160 million dollar man.

The other night in Minnesota they could have used a loogy. Buck some nights could use one in the 5th inning. Not all guys will be available every game.

Reimold and Pearce on the roster is redundant.

Ubaldo will never bite the dust unless it's mid season next year. He'll be stashed in the bullpen only to be used in blowouts or until the last possible option in an extra innings game. When September comes around, he'll be further buried.

Why are they redundant? Kim and Alvarez don't play vs lefties.

Another thing I like about this move is it shows a certain amount of humility on the part of DD. In hindsight, he almost certainly should have brought Pearce back. He didn't, and I think most GMs in Dan's position wouldn't even consider Pearce. I like the willingness to eat crow.

So the depth he provides and roster flexibility can be measured with WAR? What if there is an injury? He has been an everyday player in spurts.

His splits this season are rather pronounced, and his career high for at bats is 338, that doesn't say everyday player.

That being said, almost six wins in 338 at bats? Nuts!

Because Reimold barely plays as it is.

Reimold is the only one on the current roster who can fill in if Adam needs to leave a game or take 1 day off.

Reimold and Pearce will both play vs LHP.

I expect we will go back to 12 pitchers, with Worley remaining as one long man and the other one coming from a choice of Ubaldo, Wilson, and Despaigne. Wilson and Despaigne can both be optioned.

Or give Buck what he wants. Either way it does show positive flexibility on DD's part.

Mixed feelings on this one. I like Pearce, but he's a rental and is only going to play part time. I guess I don't care that much about Heim given the depth we have at catcher in the minors, but I do think he'll be a viable back-up some day. So I'm about neutral on this one.

He is capable of being an everyday player and his glove is better than Reimold and and Trumbo, insurance depth as well.

      If they were going to get rid of Fuller they should have done it a month and a half ago. The issues with our hitting were apparent the whole second half of the season. Maybe a firing or two would have sent a message to the players prior to their postseason fizzle. .

      I'm not sure that's quite it.  Well, more importantly, I'm not sure that's quite it for me. I absolutely want to win more in the playoffs.  At this point there's no question that for me I'd live through some lousy seasons if it guaranteed a World Series trophy.  I'd give up a lot for that. But unfortunately it's the weird paradox, especially in baseball, where the games that mean so much in terms of perception actually mean very little.   Just look at some the threads posted on this board in recent weeks. "Do the Orioles need more experience"?  (studies have shown this is not the case) "Maybe they need a certain type of hitter/approach!" (no, studies have shown that's not it either) "They must need to build their bullpen a certain way." (nope) "Well you have to be playing well in September to have a chance in October!"  (very much not true) "It must be those nice white boys need somebody to be a jerk" (OK, no real way to quantify that one :)) The Astros must have the secret sauce, they went to the ALCS a lot of times in a row!  Oh, they lost in the 1st round this year. Study after study after study shows that there is no pattern.  There is no "right" way to do it.  There's no way to predict from year to year which teams will or will not go on the run. If for that crazy 8-9th inning on the day after the season the Mets may not have even made the playoffs.  Now they're the example of guys that can "get it done". It's not an excuse, and frankly it's not really my opinion.  It's reality. I do 100% agree with your last 2 sentences.  I don't know what we've done to so displease the baseball gods.

      It's definitely a possibility, but I wonder if there is actually something going on between Hyde and some players, would it be smart to bring his potential replacement in and subject him to the problem?    The fans, mostly here are the main source of BB being a manager. He's definitely had some MiL success so it's not unreasonable to assume he will be a manager someday.

      I think this is spot on in every way.  But I think the fanbase is somewhat divided on how important playoff success is. Put another way, for you, me, and a lot of folks, the playoffs mean a ton.  41 years with no championship or even a pennant is a real long time, and the narrative of the Orioles since 1983 has gotten extremely old. Even the narrative of this winless recent edition of the Os has gotten old. For other fans, the regular season means much more and winning/losing in the playoffs doesn't carry much weight because of the nature of the tournament.   There is no right or wrong way to be a fan of a team. But I can say that if you told me the next 10 years would involve 9 seasons where we lose 90+ games and 1 season where we win the World Series, I will gladly sign up for that.  I am definitely at that point where that title means everything to me and yes 29 teams go home without the ring each year, but 1 team does get it and that needs to be us. And if we get "lucky" like the Tigers on the path there, then bring it on! If the playoffs are a crapshoot, I am tired of that crapshoot rewarding everyone else.
